I worked at a company that helped people find the best loans for their situation.
Basically a price comparison site. No sponsored content or anything.
One day I was asked about setting up a payday loans option for the site and just said no.
I'd listened to some podcast about just how predatory the industry was, and even though our national regulations meant it couldn't get as bad as some places, it was still unacceptably predatory.
I showed the manager stats for repayment, interest and average income of a customer and said if he went forward with this I would not be participating.
And if he was going to ask me to participate regardless, I would hand him my notice on the spot.
They never did anything with payday loans after that. I think most people were pretty happy about it.
This is a sort of "but it's weird that it happened twice" thing, but I had a friend out researching Orangutans in I think Indonesia and he dropped dead after (supposedly) recovering from a fever.
Probably only a few years younger than your friend.
I've not kept up with his research but I suspect the species is almost certainly declining worse than when he was there.
I do this as much as possible. However the Firefox in-page translation software seems to do something that actually changes the page (and this can break things like forms) whereas chromium browsers do some kind of translation layer on top, so the page can run normally beneath it.
It's an infuriating reason but right now it means I have to split my browser use depending on if I need translations or not.
With this administration's track record, I'm half expecting this to turn out to be the justification for putting "lobster-verification" cameras in everyone's kitchen.
I was wondering why Bill was getting so many presents, but then I remembered English is a weird language and it actually means they were buying Bill's branded stuff.
Literally just had that same thing with Icarus while I was looking at the winter sale. I went to reviews to find the catch for the game and people were saying the base game is pretty just a big demo.
Bezos was talking about computer rental being the future of the market.
Presumably with him reaping the rewards.
