  • It’s neither fear mongering nor a self fulfilling prophecy if you’re simply stating facts. It’s not the Danish PMs fault, that Russia mistakes itself for some kind of empire

"I think we are in the most difficult and dangerous situation since the second world war." is, by her own wording, decidedly not a fact. It's pointless hyperbole and headline-hunting that compromises (arguably deliberately so) the reader's perception of the world. A world that does not make rational decisions but decisions solely based on its perception of itself. And it was her active decision to make that statement.

  • Russia has started the largest war in Europe since WW2 and the Americans move very quickly from being allies to enemies. It is important to talk about that and act acordingly

I agree with that, is there a contradiction here?

  • Can we stop with the self-fulfilling prophecies already? Fear-mongering has always been a necessary requirement for escalations of any kind 🤦

  • I agree that those things are going to happen, but again, I'm deliberately not using GApps and thus no Playstore apps, including WA. Using an undesirable product is a vote for the continued existence of that product, so the only winning move is not to play, isn't it? 🤷

  • Already today using LineageOS means give up on banking apps, ID apps, and even McDonald’s and some games like Pokemon.

Yeah because Google with play intergrity now demands valid keys that gets invalidated as soon Google detect they are used for such usage. The cat and mouse game suddenly got much harder to beat.

But if I'm already using LineageOS without GApps, this wouldn't make any difference, right?

Edit: Also - thanks for all your work!

  • Thr cheapest one I can find is $600, for a phone that is 4 years old. I would prefer not to do that.

Reasonable, I suppose, although age really shouldn't matter that much if the hardware features are sufficient and you're running your own OS.The low-end models around here have become cheap enough that I'm considering a second one as a testing environment/travel phone/untrusted device 😅

  • I love this game! So happy to see someone else linking it.

It's a powerful didactic tool and I'm happy to reference it whenever I have the chance.

  • Trust is something that depends on repeat interactions - it's earned and built, not freely given. Turn off the phone, the TV and the computer for a while each day and focus on the people around you. Your local community, your friends your family. The more you directly interact with somebody, the more potential is there for you to build up trust - maybe even mutual trust!

  • Curious to know what the experiences are for those who are sticking to bare metal. Would like to better understand what keeps such admins from migrating to containers, Docker, Podman, Virtual Machines, etc. What keeps you on bare metal in 2025?

If it aint broke, don't fix it 🤷

  • If I didnt have to pay 2x - 3x the price for a fairphone in the US I would’ve already switched. Unfortunately, $1k for a device with USB 2.0 is really not worth it for me or anyone else I know.

Going for a used FP4 should address both those concerns!

  • That sounds interesting, I'll have a look!

  • So, wie ich es hier kennengelernt habe: Alles bleibt so wie es ist.

Wo genau kennengelernt? "Unliebsamen Status Quo beibehalten" scheint mir grundsätzlich schwer vereinbar mit "klassisch links" 😅

  • Feast your eyes on this shitshow (use desktop mode if on mobile)

Ouch, my condolences. It's fascinating that it took me longer to scroll through that than most people have or ever will spend on watching the show.

  • I raise you multi-language content or a mixed Australian/US-Broadcast Mythbusters collection 😐

  • Apples and oranges.

Package managers only install a package with defaults. These helper scripts are designed to take the user through a final config that isn’t provided by the package defaults.

Whether there's a setup wizard doesn't have anything to do with whether the tool comes from a package manager or not. Run "apt install ddclient", for example, it'll immediately guide you through all configuration steps for the program instead of just dumping a binary and some config text files in /etc/.

So that's not the bottleneck or contradiction here. It's just very unfortunate that setup wizards are not very popular as soon as you leave Windows and OSX ecosystems.

  • There’s literally no good reason to replace it with a shell script on a website.

I fully agree that a package manager repository with all those tools would be preferable, but it doesn't exist, does it? I mean... content is king. If the only way to get a certain program or functionality is a shell script on a website, then of course that's what is going to be used.
