  • This is similar in appearance to the one I posted a few weeks ago -- both are Chicago Surface Lines streetcars, but this one was built by Pullman.

  • Actually there were two of them:

    This one-of-a-kind, near-G-scale trolley was made by Bill Ferguson in Toronto, Canada, in 1967.

    That's the one you see Mr. Rogers interacting with in his home.

    The missing ingredient in the HO neighborhood with all the houses and trees was an HO scale trolley.

    So they built a smaller one, which you see at the beginning and end of each show.

  • Maybe they wrote the headline that way under the assumption that climate-change deniers wouldn't read past it (?)

    Of course, here's the bottom line:

    Climate models suggest Earth should have heated up about 1.3 C by now, because of fossil fuel burning and other human-driven disruptions to the planet.

    Beyond this, they're just zeroing in on variables such as volcanoes, weather patterns, ship emissions, clouds, etc. So that is apparently what the somewhat misleading headline characterizes as a "mystery".

    But avian flu outbreaks require them to cull (kill) large numbers of egg-producing chickens, so it's basically a supply-and-demand issue -- hence the price spikes.

    There have been several outbreaks here in the States over the past year or so and we're in the middle of yet another one.

    I was able to get a dozen large eggs for about $1.60 in October; now they're at least twice that.
