  • Hi friend! I’m an American living in Portugal. Sorry about our bastard of a president. The wines here Portugal are fantastic, I can’t recommend them enough!

Since I’m a wine enthusiast from the states, here are some similar appellations that might satisfy your cravings, due to similar production styles and palates!

Napa and Sonoma Valley, CA … Alentejo

    Willamette Valley, OR … Douro

Columbia Valley, WA … Dão, Tras-os-Montes

  • How much time have you got?

  • The roll of paper is an interesting idea but where would one actually buy those? Are they a standard thing?

  • Of course: the more people feel the system isn’t working for them, the more they’re willing to vote for nontraditional candidates who promise to burn it down. More often than not, those candidates are right-wing demagogues.

  • I’m a Guardian reader and I would say in recent months they have taken a largely pro-Palestinian viewpoint. For example: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/oct/02/palestinians-killed-in-fresh-wave-of-israeli-attacks-on-gaza

Parts of Gaza are experiencing famine because of an Israeli blockade, while more than half a million people have been displaced south by bombing over the past six weeks. Israel insists there is no famine, contrary to the findings of most global aid bodies. Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has killed at least 66,200 Palestinians and wounded about 170,000, according to the Gaza health authority.

That doesn’t sound like Zionist propaganda to me, it sounds like an accurate tally of the suffering that Israel is causing.

  • It’s almost impressive how they manage to be wrong on literally every single issue.

  • Republican thought experiment: if Trump is the sworn enemy of anti fascists, then what does that make him?

  • I… what? It’s a view of downtown and Tom McCall Waterfront Park looking across the Willamette from alongside the Hawthorne Bridge. You can’t see either Gresham or Beaverton from this spot, nor within at least 10 miles of where it was taken. (Which was right here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ccVP2PghV2xPBmvy6)

  • Moldova is for sure not safe right now.

  • War ravaged?

  • I am out of the loop (by which I mean hi from Europe), what did target do?

  • What does “86 a guy” mean?

  • I’m 100% sure we’ll have an election in 2028. The interesting question is whether it will be free and fair. Remember, even China and Russia hold elections; just not ones the incumbent can lose.

  • Ah, Threads and some other lower quality social media are full of people making snarky comments to users from the States, saying something to the effect of “we are also in the Americas, so we’re Americans, you’re a US-ian”.

It all basically stems from the fact that in Spanish, the demonym for people from the US is “estadounidense” (United-Statesian) whereas “America” is used to refer to all of North and South America as a regions. People are too dumb to realise “America” has a different connotation in the two languages and it devolves into flame wars.

  • In the sense that the government and the people are misaligned? Or is this one of those “you’re united statesian, there are 30 countries in America” takes?

  • Ok, I think I see why your last comment made no sense to me. I think you’re trying to have a substantive discussion, but… you’re engaging with a joke. I can’t debate you because I don’t have a serious position, I have a joke.

  • I don’t really understand this comment. I was replying to the parent comment with a sarcastic/joke take on the “both sides same” people.
