Privacy@lemmy.ml•For those looking to migrate away from Mullvad VPN, what are some alternatives that the community recommends?
1·6 小时前So someoone else provided that link; and maybe I’m reading it wrong but Windscribe is just linked to a copmany called Control D.
They seem to encrypt DNS filtering and stuff (haven’t looked into it), but that is a good thing right?
What am I missing with this link and why are so many people linking it

1·6 小时前I tried adding their client via Obtanium, it didn’t work.
But man, that client looks so outdated. It looks like a kid’s idea of a website.

1·2 天前Is it the fact that they put out (a somewhat tasteless) AI ad?
In the grand scheme of things and with everything else going on, that seems pretty tame.

Television@piefed.social•Story details of the Stargate series cancelled by Amazon have been revealed at a Stargate conventionEnglish
5·3 天前So something to cosndier: why don’t they make it cheaper?
A lot of the TV people fell in love with, and that companies are trying to remake now, were low cost productions.
They didn’t go for big name stars, they didn’t go for big budgets. They focused more so on writing that helped create a good product.
That seems to be out the door now.

2·5 天前In defense of Graphene for the first point:
Graphene has a pin scrambler, so the numbers are in a different position everytime you have to enter them.
It isn’t hard at all to get used to it, and it circumvents the pattern recognition bit.
Fingerprint unlock…that’s a different discussion especially with biometrics not being protected under the law, but for first unlock you always have to enter in a pin
Quickly looking at my phone, you can enter in a passphrase (though personally I think that’s too cumbersome). There’s also a swipe option, I THINK that might be pattern, but I’m not sure. I can’t test it, because it means deleting the already in place measures, and I don’t wnat to do that at the moment.
I don’t know enough about other points to comment on it.

KDE & Plasma users@lemmy.ml•So, who else is using the the new Oxygen theme and loving it?
2·5 天前I’m running Endeavour OS. Interestingly I just did a fresh install on a machine the other day, but again, I don’t see the theme anywhere.

KDE & Plasma users@lemmy.ml•I always end up coming back to Kora. Can anyone recommend a good icon theme?
2·6 天前Some first reaction feedback:
It’s good but there are two things taht I don’t like.
1.) It uses Breeze system tray icons that I am not a fan of at all; they look very outdated, not fun, boring, and its a smidge hard to get information out of them.
2.) Again in Dolphin, it uses the Breeze icons in the Places tab. I really don’t like those minimal icons; there’s no fun pop color, while at the same time looking modern (ala Kora).
Just to give you an idea of what I mean by non-perfect icons.
I think the overall culprit in Plasma, and as evidenced here, is that I feel Breeze is a really bad icon theme. And a lot of people use that as a starting point…which leads to unsatisfactory results.

2·6 天前How do you get the Oxygen theme?
I went to global themes, and I can’t find it in there.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Beyond GPS: The Hidden Ways Your Phone Tracks You
2·11 天前Can you expand on that? That’s a really interesting conclusion and I’d be interested in hearing how that would work.
Personally I use that setup and am quite disappointed to hear that using wifi calling isn’t the best idea.
May I should just have wifi calling off the entire time, but I would appreciate an explanation so I can plan on how to tailor my phone usage next.
Thanks

Games@hexbear.net•do i have to do anything special to sail the high seas on a steam deckEnglish
1·13 天前So two things
-
This is relatively “new.” I think they implemented this a few years ago. I used to like using the methods of old where you could use LUtris and not have to log in.
-
On the topic of this post of sailing the high seas, then this makes it difficult does it not to use Lutris and its install scripts?

2·20 天前Yes sorry for the ambiguity: I meant that lutris requires you to log in through them to the platform of choice (in my case GOG).

Games@hexbear.net•do i have to do anything special to sail the high seas on a steam deckEnglish
1·20 天前Have you tried it recently? The download scripts in my experience require you to log in.
For some games that I own, the install scripts have been tweaked so as not to require you to log in.

1·20 天前Just as a warning with both launchers, to use their built-in install aids (install scripts) you need to log in with your respective accounts.
Then they will try to download the file directly via your account.
I don’t know how to bypass that.
So basically if you use Lutris, you won’t be able to use their install scripts and will have to install the game manually.
Or am I mistaken in that?

Peertube@lemmy.world•12 Awesome Linux apps you've likely never tried!
1·24 天前I just updated to the latest version on my computer and phone (1.18), but discovery doesn’t seem to be working.
It was very frustrating. Restarting both did nothing…I really don’t know what to do.
The only solution was a new button called share by link or something, where you manually type in the web address.
So the transfer mechanism still works…it is just discovery that is borked.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What have you completely stopped buying because the price has gotten ridiculus?
3·24 天前I’m going to go on a rant here, but I was disappointed in the launch of the Pi 5 and even more frustrated at the lack of pushback by the tech community.
I’m forgetting the details now, but it launched much later than it was supposed to (they used covid as an excuse, but I’m not sure). That’s not the issue; the issue is that it was only slightly more powerful than the Pi 4.
Given that the Pi 5 was launched 4 years later, it should have been more powerful. But considering it wasn’t, it meant they were using cheaper silicon.
But the real kicker is that I think it had a $10 (like a 25%) price hike.
So more expensive for marginally better power…screw that.
That along with the locked down nature of arm, I was done with the company. Especially considering the strides x86 has made in low power applications.
It just sucks can’t afford anything right now.

I’ll give that link a shot. I installed Obtanium for the first time, and tried adding their installation link (maybe not that one, I don’t remember what I tried adding), but I couldn’t get it to wokr.
But maaaan, their android client looks so amateurish. I mean it’s fine as long as it works, but as an ad for your company…this isn’t it.
