Little off topic, but I remember my college roommate and I watching a TV ad around '91 or so, "Oh no! Ground beef again? What will I tell my husband!?" We. Were. Screaming.

"Fuck you bitch! We're on our last can of boiled carrots and frying flour in the last of our oil and topping it with the last of our ketchup!" We were picking pecans off the roof and frying them in the last of our butter and seasoning salt. (A fine meal!) We were scheming on swiping a duck while we picked black walnuts at the campus pond. I'd get dressed nicely and shoplift our Sunday meals.

Kids today: We. Are. Literally. Dying. McDonald's is SO expensive!

It's not that we olds think you deserve to suffer because we did, but... we did... Kinda hard to entertain modern complaints.

Don't start me on rent though. That place was the attic of a 107-yo house that was literally tilting over, held together by wires in the basement. Landlord was not a smart man to begin with, utterly senile by the time we met him. As in, worse than Trump senile. Not even trying to be funny. Still, $250/mo.

$600 in 2025 money, exactly our Habitat for Humanity mortgage today. Please fucking call Habitat and merely ask when the next meeting is! It's almost certainly not what you think. One phone call changed my life.

This will piss you off. I got turned down for a lease in the 90s because landlords wanted you to take home 3-4x the rent. If you couldn't make rent in 7-11 days, you were a poor risk.

Tried actual Band Aid™ brand? Hate to sound like I'm shilling, but I get beat up a lot in the woods and on the water. Never had a hydrocolloid fail, even if it was mushed in my tiny aid kit for months. Again, Band Aid™ brand works way better. Easier to get out the package, sticks way better, comes off better.

Hate buying the brand name because it costs so much more, but, get what ya pay for.

Listening to what my 10 and 12-yo hear on whatever they're on, "Oh for fuck's sake! Can you not tell that's bullshit?! 'DID YOU KNOW?!'", followed by a fire hose of partially true things.

When I have them over Christmas we need to have a long sit down on media literacy and the difference in fact vs. opinion. I got taught that shit in 70s-80s science class. I've been a poor father thinking they got the same.

You can tell most everything you need to know about a company by looking at the CEO. That's because they're the leader, they set the tone, contrary to lemmy beliefs. Happy or unhappy employees? Look to the CEO. Solid earnings, year after year after year? CEO. I ask at every interview, "What's the CEO like?" BUT...

A) Ultimately, CEOs do what the fucking board of directors wants, or they get fired, hence, the golden parachute. Would you take a monster job knowing that you could be forced to fuck your industry reputation and not hedge that bet? Nah. Force me to do something stupid yet needful? I want paid when you fire me on purpose for doing what you said.

B) I think you are in an echo chamber around here. Most CEOs are great folks, you only hear about the major fuck ups at the major companies. Also, the decisions the big dogs make that lemmy tells you are unpopular, really aren't unpopular in the wider world. EA Games still exists after all.

I'd like to know how they plan to manage their fleets without Active Directory. Yes, I know what LDAP is and if you consider that a robust alternative you don't have a handle on what all AD does outside of authentication.
