  • Ah noooo, I was afraid of that! I was hoping I could keep doing the bare minimum and just make it work through sheer force of will (lenin-dont-laugh ). I can’t go past about a week because I usually chip holy hell out of my nails and they need to be redone anyway, but I’m guessing the whole system you’re describing will help with that. I’m also so bad at painting my own nails that so far I’m quite happy to get them cleaned off entirely after a few days.

I do think I’ll look for some base and top coat next time I’m able though, I know it will make things easier and then I’ll wonder why I ever tried to do without them in the first place. Thank you for the info, I really appreciate the advice from people I trust on here. When I try to look any of this stuff up online you can find a ton of contradictory advice from a bunch of random people and it can be both unhelpful and overwhelming

  • I painted my nails, put on mascara, got dressed in a skirt and pink striped top and went to an art museum! It was by far the most fem presenting I’ve been in public (so-far ) and it was really nice and only a little bit scary (doubt ).

    long version

I was planning on getting dolled up to pick up Dr. Partner again so we could go to lunch, but I ran out of time and had to scrap the idea. It made me feel really shitty, I had the idea in my head and I wanted to try it but the timing didn’t work out. So when we got home I moped around for a bit and then said fuck it and decided (not really though, it felt like I didn’t have a choice) I had to try going out and doing something, anything while sporting the new look. I have been to the art museum a few times before, it’s usually not too crowded and it’s mostly dimly lit so I thought it’d be perfect. I got myself put together (I had a much easier time with the mascara this time around thankfully!) and drove across town.

I got there and had a mild panic in the car trying to psych myself up to get out. I texted Dr. Partner to kill some time and got some much needed encouragement. I had brought a set of masc clothes to change into in case I chickened out, so I was staring at them and the entrance back and forth until I jumped out. It was kind of cool and breezy so I immediately felt that blowing between my legs, which was really surprising (for some reason) and kind of scary but it motivated me to get inside asap lol.

The museum is free (hell yes!) and you just walk right in so I put my head down and basically just booked it inside into the first dimly lit gallery I could manage. I kind of skulked around trying to avoid other people for a while, not really looking at any of the actual art but just trying not to give up and run away. Eventually I ended up in a room full of awesome textile and fabric arts from around the world and looked at gilded and bejeweled skirts from different continents and centuries. Other people came into the room and I didn’t run away immediately. After that I just sort of mosied around actually enjoying myself and stayed until closing time.

All in all it was really fun but also kind of scary. I don’t know what I was scared of but my heart was racing for the first 15 minutes or so I was there. It felt like something I needed to do, and I’m glad I stuck it out. When I finally got back to the car I saw my backup masc clothes and felt really accomplished that I didn’t need them. I can’t wait to figure out something else to do or somewhere else to go and try it all again!
