  • Obviously the entire goal was to make the government dependent on their select batch of private companies which they control. Palantir is one, but don't forget the huge order for military-grade armored Teslas. And probably many similar cases.

  • There's also pixelunion.eu

Basically a hosted version of Immich. Since they offer ML models for face recognition etc., your files are not end-to-end encrypted. Though they are very transparent about this and apparently make sure nobody has access, and data is encrypted at rest.

If you're not bothered by this, it might be a good option

  • That's one issue, but there's also the more general issue that healthcare can never be a truly free market - you cannot just decide not to get that lifesaving operation, and often your choice on with which doctor to get it is heavily limited as well.

It is idiotic to think a free market ideology could ever work in an inherently non-free market.

  • Note that we do have a unique location situation in that we do not by default use Google's proprietary fused location provider. Both for privacy reasons, and because it behaved weirdly on some degoogled devices. You can enable it in the settings, maybe that does something for you, or maybe it doesn't :P

  • There should be an app update coming tomorrow or so with a potential fix - although it is difficult to debug these location issues, so it is possible that it doesn't change anything in your case

  • It was always meant to be finished after a few days, you are ridiculous hahahah

  • One major motivation is the sharing of maps files in areas with bad internet connection. The custom map server allows one person to download the map and share it locally with others.

  • Some banking apps work. Some banks online banking can be used in browser. Other than that.. Idk

  • So nothing new then?

  • You are conflating a lot of different things and putting words in my mouth.

No country is free of problems. But the US in particular has so many issues that are significantly more obvious than something like federalism. So it is very unclear to me why you would single that out as having anything to do with the current state of that country.

  • Disagree, migrate everything important you can think of, let it sit for a year or two and then delete. If you didn't need it in that time, chances are you likely never will.

  • None of the original founders of OM are part of CoMaps, if that answers your question

  • American problems are rooted in Calvinism and the idea that everyone is entitled to everything around them if they can only grab it. Not federalism.

  • Not enough americans hate them enough. Unfortunately.

  • I suppose he is referring to banking apps (and all security-critical apps) relying on Google and Apple for attestation of device integrity (i.e. that nobody, including you yourself, tampered with the device operating system).

This almost surely could be solved with open-source, public-owned code, although I'd have to research that to be sure.

  • Well what is the best place to find and buy those? Just the usual "refurbished tech" stores and websites?

  • Is the Fairphone 6 really significantly more expensive still?

  • It's not irony when there's no current alternative

  • Not even sanctions. This is already a must from an independence perspective
