  • That happens when groups get into purity spirals. When you push people who mostly agree with you away, they might find people that you really don't agree with.

  • Writing off half the population is part of the problem. Not all of them are terrible, but if you shun them, the only place accepting them is even further right.

  • I shouldn't be surprised Lemmy thinks this is a good thing. It's really a problem for Democrats, and it's a big reason trump won in the first place. You need people that disagree with you on occasion.

  • Days is exaggeration, but there does seem to be mounting evidence that Putin may be looking for a way out of the war over the next year or so.

  • The big difference is the compatibility is actually there now. Also, controller support is a lot more common for PC games now.

  • It's not even the first lizard based medicine. There was also Byetta, which was based on gila monster saliva. It's a diabetes drug that was one of the first to also be useful for weight loss.

  • The big subs were full of bots, but for some it didn't really matter. It a post was a bit but it was still funny on memes or funny then it's fine. I don't care if karma farming bots were the majority of posts so long as it's still good content. The content does seem to be significantly worse now though.

  • Not sure about the trying not to be reddit. This place is at least as much of an echo chamber as reddit. It has petty power tripping mods and adds defederation drama as well.

  • It's absolutely a generic open world game, bit that's not necessarily a bad thing. The formula is fun if it's done well, which I think it is for Horizon Zero Dawn. The combat style is also uncommon and provides a satisfying loop of stealth and bullet time mechanics.

  • Your definition of better is not the only definition of better. Lots of people have different beliefs about what would make the world better, getting angry or depressed because people don't agree with your specific view is childish. Dismissing everyone else as wrong is also childish.

You really need to reevaluate the impact you can actually have and make peace with it's limits. You aren't going to change great societal problems by yourself.

  • It's a little bit of everything, but the main contributor is the financialization of the Internet. Ads went from reasonable banners to ever more egregious and disruptive formats, which led to ad blockers. Then efforts went towards ways to embed ads in ways that couldn't be blocked or paywalls to keep revenue flowing, which hurts the value of the content. At the same time many companies started viewing the Internet as purely a sales and marketing platform, anything that didn't drive revenue was a cost center and eliminated. At the same time search engines were slowly getting worse due to increased ad presence and polluted results with seo garbage sites that aren't actually relevant. Everyone has slowly cannibalized their content to a point where the value isn't there anymore for actual users.

Things like AI and bot nets were more the final nail in the coffin. Another large contributor was the death of flash, which destroyed a large portion of the Internet at the time.

  • IR cameras are good at counting bodies.

  • After seems like an odd choice unless it's way after. The end of the reapers was galaxy altering regardless of choice. A prequel seems like it would be easier to do.

  • It's more likely that by moving it to DHS they can more credibly argue national security concerns for the military actions they have been taking.

  • Questions that don't invite discussion are bad content. When there's basically no replies to top comments it's a poor post.

  • The dinosaur with the most horns still has the most horns. Present tense is acceptable in reference to the record.

  • If you don't have Rise or World, it's a decent price for them. These are by far the most approachable titles in the series. Rise is a bit more fast paced and has more QoL features. World + iceborne has more interesting combat mechanics with the clutch claw and environment interaction. Killing giant monsters with absurd weapons is fun in both games.

Stories is a totally different type of game in the same universe. It seems to be well received.

  • Steam tends to be a lot faster download than other platforms. It's been a while, but GoG is roughly half the speed of steam, and Microsoft is basically dial up speeds.
