  • Sure, but before things can become commonplace we need voices advocating for the direction of that change. That’s my goal. To be a voice.

Also, irrelevant to you, but: I might need a new Lemmy account. Connect isn’t working for me and I can’t find which e-mail I used to sign up for Lemmy. Super annoying, because I keep needing to search for the posts that I commented on, and then find the comments themselves in order to reply. My inbox just gives me errors about not finding the posts… but they’re obviously still here

  • Yeah, that’s gotta suck and I’m 100% not against people talking about who they are if they WANT to. What irritates me is the labels people are forced carry.

Like “wow a woman was finally able to achieve what men can achieve” or “wow this gay man was finally able to acheive what straight men can achieve” and that’s the part that annoys me

Eta: I think it’s meant well, but it implies that there’s something “special” about these people that allows them to climb the ranks previously reserved for a select group of people

So to truly be inclusive, things like “race” and gender and sexuality should be looked at as variations of normal, the same way hair color or height is looked at

2nd edit: Ok, sorry, but just to clarify I’m not harping on straight, white, males here. Swinging the pendulum the exact opposite way doesn’t help, either. I’m seeing this more as a societal thing that I’d liked to see changed

  • My guess is that it’s to avoid something like finding records of a past leader who is gay, and them then being the first

My issue with this is: why does their sexuality even matter? It’s their GD business

Eta: I also hate this with race and gender. “First woman to…” why? Why are we so focused on the color of people’s skin, their religion, what’s between their legs, or who they love?

I want to live in a world where a mixed-heritage lesbian woman is elected and no-one bats an eye, or mentions anything about it unless it comes up organically by the person elected. Otherwise the only legit question should be: is this person the best candidate for the job?

Ok Ill get off my soap box now

Yeah, every time I try to use any exercise equipment I get ANGRY. I feel WORSE than I did beforehand. No sense of accomplishment, no endorphines, just irritation

If I go for a walk where I can explore for miles, I’m happy. Dancing also makes my brain tingle. I get more joy out of vacuuming and other housework than a tredmil or elliptical machine.

F THAT! Feels pointless and I can’t seem to convince myself otherwise. Same for running. It’s meh unless I’m trying to get somewhere fast (and I already speed walk as it is)

  • I think that lil’ kick some of us get is what divides people with adhd into the successful and unsucessful groups. Both suck, both are not our faults, but I’m glad to be able to eventually get stuff done even if it feels like I’m shortening my lifespan

I have a close friend who has inattentive adhd and he has a baaaaad time at life. He “lets” all the deadlines fly by and falls into depressions because of it. Got kicked out of school, ended up homeless for a while, finally recovered but then couldn’t deal with credit cards, managed to get on his feet again and find a woman who supported him, but then she dumped him because he forgot to get her from the hospital. He’s finally kind of ok, has a job and lives with his mom (at 40). I keep trying to get him to get back on meds but he says he can’t afford the visit. He can’t get through the paperwork for disability, either. He isn’t stupid, we have great in-depth conversations and he’s witty af. He just really… can’t

I mention all that to illustrate what I mean by successful vs unsucessful. I’ve asked him if he gets the: ShitIHaveToDoThisAllRightNow! kick and he doesn’t. Task pressure just paralyzes him

  • Sometimes I need a break just turning on the computer. Or putting dishes in the dishwasher. Or moving the laundry from the drier to the bed.

I’m a lot “better” at doing tasks than most people that I know with unmedicated adhd, but some days are just… nope, I showered and brushed my teeth so imma spend the rest of the day doing whatever random thing captures my attention for more than 5 minutes

Usually need a few days like that in a week. I just let my brain off it’s leash until the anxiety and guilt kicks in and then I get everything done is a fury

As an Americam, I approve of this satire!

    Wait a minute.

    It… it is satire, right?

As an American, I am also now confused.

What if… what if this isn’t satire and someone REALLY thinks that being European is better than being American? No… surely it can’t be!

    America is the greatest!

    …RIGHT?!

    Hello?..

    (O_O)

  • Women’s rights have been walked back, causing child rape victims to struggle to find abortions, to say nothing of women being forced to carry fetuses who will die upon birth. Trans rights are being shit on, to the point that gender affirming care is being denied to people even where it’s legal. Taxes for the wealthy are too low. The middle class is rare to be in. Health insurance is insanely expensive and it’s difficult to see a doctor even when you have it- emergency rooms will leave you waiting for 6 hours or more. We simultaneously have too many people, and too few children with a looming crisis of too many elderly. We have microplastics in the air, oceans, food, fetuses, everywhere. Housing is largely unaffordable across the globe. Homelessness is out of control. Massive, destructive wildfires are the new norm. Heatwaves are killing people. Migrants are clamouring to find new countries to live in (which will get worse due to climate change) causing all kinds of social frictions. The youth are anxious, depressed, and suicidal.

But please, tell me how things are good for people over all?
