  • Besides plenty of other reasons people mentioned, Gen Z in particular is pretty antisocial. I've seen them hang out at bars, they might get one drink and just stare at their phone. Just anecdotal, but from what I've gathered it definitely feels like those type of folk either don't know how to have fun or are averse to it. I don't mean that in a completely negative way, either. I think covid really made a lot of people in general more socially inept. Again, I don't mean that to denegrate and I've definitely felt that a bit myself.

  • People saying users are the bane of IT professionals are just antisocial whiners. The real bane of an IT professional is fucking printers. Fuck printers.

  • I use Sensodyne brand and I don't feel like the taste lingers very long, I may just be tolerant though because I have used the same brand for years.

  • I can anecdotally attest to this. I've been using the same Samsung phone since basically 2020 with original battery and the runtime is still damn good for what I need.

  • This may not be the answer you are looking for, but one method would be to use WSL on windows to run a Linux distro with Docker installed and just migrate everything over, basically 1-to-1. Then set WSL to auto start when you boot up windows. If you install Docker Desktop on Windows, it will also pick up that you're using Docket via WSL and allow you to manage shit from the client. I don't do that though, I'm a masochist old-school.

  • I primarily run Linux server distros for what I like to do. I usually do Debian since it's a nice base to just add whatever on to (sudo isn't even installed out of the box) so I have been working on a customized install script but if I don't feel like messing around too much I just go with Ubuntu and avoid using snaps for anything I care about (especially Docker, like wtf is with the snap version of Docker). I like the default toolset of Debian based distros and not having to screw with SELinux.

  • I have amazing and fairly intelligent parents I can always talk to, but their level of cognitive dissonance on some subjects is absolutely insane so I know what to avoid talking about or responding to.

  • This is not a solution at all and just what I usually resort to, I always disable sleep on every OS and computer I use. I've always had strange issues after waking up from sleep that persist until reboot and I can't even remember what they are now because it's been so long since I've used it.

  • I have two go-to combos that never fail me:

    • bacon and pineapple
    • pepperoni and bananna peppers

Both are also fire as hell with Tajín, more specifically the former.

  • I am a huge fan of using PowerShell for scripting on Linux. I use it a ton on Windows already and it allows me to write damn near cross-platform scripts with no extra effort. I still usually use a Bash or Fish shell but for scripting I love being able to utilize powershell.

  • Sadly it's unavailable while it is being re-worked, but I am really hoping it turns out to be good. It's not all too hard to find a cheap or free used/refurb PC that's good enough to play video on a TV

  • I hate it. I think a lot of devs who write cross-platform open-source software just use the %userprofile% automatic env variable to dump dotfiles in Windows since it can basically directly replace $HOME. In my opinion using something like %localappdata% is definitely preferred.

  • I think it's as simple as this: people need an enemy, some person or group they feel is against them. Conservatives get off on having a victim complex, and will straight up make shit up against their opposition just to make themselves look like a helpless little child. "Oh no, what am I gonna do? Me or my granddaughter needs a job and I heard in the news they're all being taken up by immigrants" meanwhile, the same person is being fed this information from the comfort of their couch.

"The immigrants are taking our jobs" is a sentiment that I have seen at least in my part of the country go down in the last several years and im in a very conservative area. Simple fact is immigrant workers work cheaper and faster than others and they often do better work, people are realizing that.
