  • I was doing a bit of cleaning recently and came across a binder/collection of burned DVDs and PS2 games. The kids were young and did a lot of travel by car, which had DVD players strapped to the front head rests. I had a bunch of stuff ready like anime like Inuyasha, Ghibli, Avatar TLA, home videos, VCDs, etc. I even found my old bare bones SATA DVD player that was stripped out of the PC, and a new pack of blank DVDs too. I bought a USB enclosure and the darned thing still works perfectly on my current Linux machine.

  • In theory, this is how it should work, but is often not the case.

If you just buy interoperable components without taking into consideration if they're compatible, you're running a risk of things not fitting.

What immediately comes to mind is GPU clearance to the case, as well as to the CPU cooling solution. The CPU cooler may not also fit the MOBO you want to use, protrude too much in the case, or have clearance problems with RAM. RAM could fit, but may need to be low profile accommodate the CPU cooler. Power supplies nowadays aren't as straight forward in compatibility as they used to, since some GPUs may require a special plug(s).

Once that's sorted, you can assemble like a Lego set, until something doesn't work. You're your own support person, so you need to know how to troubleshoot correctly. Did you switch the power supply on? Are the components seated properly? What do the debug LEDs say?

I'm no beginner PC builder, but my current build (first AM5 system) was a nightmare. Everything worked beautifully until I seated the GPU, which was the last item to arrive. MOBO debug LED said VGA issue and no output. Long story short, and two AM5 builds instead of one, it turned out to be a faulty CPU (9800X3D).

Had I gone with what the Internet forums suggested, and with no other AM5 system available to verify, I would have sent the GPU back and still have the issue. Luckily AMD RMA process is pretty straight forward (don't throw away your boxes until some time after you're done with the build!) The new CPU worked as expected, but that was the first time I've ever had an issue with a CPU. It worked fine via on-board HDMI, but no GPU in any possible configuration with the faulty CPU using two PCs worth of components would provide output. Everything is good now, and a family member made out with a decent 7800X3D system as a present :)

  • Wait... just "Man"? Are we allowed to do that?? Is this Florida Man? Ohio Man?? Texas Man???

I looked it up. He's Upstate New York Man.

    Upstate New York Man

  • Not even. More like 3 months ago.

The pair of 2x16 DDR5 6000 TEAMGROUP I bought back in April was $90 from Amazon. According to pcpartpicker, pricing started trending upwards late September, which Newegg still had it at $89 (9/30/25; B&H @ $109). The same pair at B&H is currently $439 (12/21/25) and MemoryC is asking $596. It's insane.

  • We all know he didn’t write any of that. The sentence structure is far too complicated.

  • WOW. Looks amazing!

  • It’s being pushed in corporate America, hard.

  • You don’t even have to do that to get served foreign ads. If you search on country specific search sites long enough, it’ll eventually bleed over to your native feed.

  • Yeah, but that was a bundle promo price offer. I essentially got a free AM5 board and still paid less than the GPU sold separately. Classic Newegg dumping unsold merch. What sucks is you can't return one without the other, even with an RMA.

  • It’s insane. Back then I still had to deal with GPU prices and availability. I had to buy the 9070xt in a MOBO bundle that I’ll never use and was cheaper than buying alone at the time. The same GPU now is $50 US less than what I paid for then so it was a pretty good price considering.

  • So glad I built my computer earlier this year. RAM prices now are triple what I paid for.

  • You’re right. They “work” 24hrs a day.

  • I've been using Navidrome for a few months now. I also use Amplify on my iphone to stream using native controls which I find very useful.

  • OH that makes more sense. Ty!

  • Boys, we’re bringing back the classic Model T.

  • A doctor at the hospital pointed out that while inserting foreign objects into the bottom was not unheard of, they can cause immense damage to internal organs and be fatal.

These objects include baseballs, vibrators and coconuts, and could be inserted for stimulation or out of curiosity.

    Coconuts?

  • I'm still on my iPhone 12 Pro (most up to date currently on the market is 17 pro). Updated from a 10 but probably didn't need to (someone wanted my soon to be old phone). Upgraded to 10 from a 6 Plus only because I broke the camera. I think the last time I was on 1-2 year update cycle was around iPhone 5.

For me, I think once storage got to 128+ (iphone 6 onward), it became easier to hold on to the phone since storage didn't feel as limiting. Like I can take pictures and pretty much not have to delete anything to make room to use the phone/camera.
