Part of my job is overseeing and reviewing submissions to our open source repo.
I have started getting AI submissions and they are absolute dog shit and they make me so mad.
I complained to the people who run the intake pipeline for the submissions and they're like "what if you added documentation for the AI to read to the codebase so it wouldn't make these mistakes?"
It's just maddening to think about how little respect for what I do these vibe coders have that they won't spend any of their human attention on the submissions, but fully expect me to use mine to clean up after them.
He's ancient and rich as fuck, and his "ideological opponents" will make sure he faces no penalties. He will never experience any blowback, which is all he cares about.
From the classic internet tradition of narcissists inventing absolutely batshit ideologies so that they can feel unique and also important when everyone yells at them.
It feels like you're conflating a couple of things. There are more games than ever, but not of the kind that require high-end machines to run. Those are usually marquee studio releases, and there are far fewer of those per year than there were a decade ago. Most new major releases kind of suck, but I think indie games have never been better, tbh. Also I think microtransactions and DLC have come down significantly from their peak where they were a huge part of single-player games. Now they seem to primarily be the realm of multiplayer/live-service games.
I think the thesis that games are retreating from the mainstream is accurate, (i.e. nowhere near CoD-mania of the 2010s) but the indie scene has never been better.
