  • Obviously it's higher. If it was any lower, they would've made a huge announcement out of it to prove they're better than the competition.

  • The thumbnail very briefly had me convinced that Trump developed the ability to cast fireballs

  • This is the first time they've been caught. It would be naive to think this is the only time this has happened. No doubt they've scrubbed data of bad actors on their side many times without anyone knowing.

  • matrix.org - new tiers for premium and free accounts on the matrix.org homeserver

  • A paid plan on a chat application? Needs a catchy hook... Matrix Nitro, perhaps?

  • I don't believe so, I think it has to do more with seeing something novel that you don't get to see every day. Like, not many people have the means to fill a house with elephant toothpaste, so when someone does that it makes for a pretty entertaining video.

  • One half-baked concession to the poor doesn't imply their party platform is about improving the lives of poor people.

  • First thing I thought of lmao

  • I wonder if there's a market here. I feel like a company that cleans up AI bullshit would make bank lol

  • I love this idea, but the main obstacle this has to overcome is the voter's knowledge of the issues and any given candidate stances on them. If we implemented this in the US, I feel like most people would still simply delegate all their votes to one candidate or all candidates of a particular party. It's a lot of information for a working person to keep track of. Any idea on how to overcome this with paper ballots? Or are computerized ballots with all relevant information embedded within the way to go?

  • I'm a pretty conservative game purchaser. I've never paid over $40 for a game (including games on sale) because there are so, so many amazing indie games on Steam that charge so little for many hours of fun.

When I see a AAA game come out, I know it's going to be profit-driven, uninspired, and rushed because it exists solely for the purpose of making money for a large corp. For that reason (among others), I avoid them altogether because I know my dollar goes way further going toward an independent developer who makes games for passion (and only sometimes for money). The passion always shines through in their work, unlike passionless AAA games.

  • Yeah I don't blame you, Apple is incredibly good at that. It's what made me drag my feet for years but eventually the built-up frustration pushed me to act lol

  • I hear that. I was an Apple user for years and years but the only reason I stuck their phones for so long was the fact that I jailbroke them to maintain control over my own devices. Jailbreaking has been getting clunkier, less useful, and way less stable so I was frustrated enough to look for an alternative.

I know you're not looking for alternatives (and I apologize for the unsolicited recommendation), but if you ever do, keep GrapheneOS on your radar. As far as I know, it's one of the only non-Apple routes to a free (control-wise) phone that isn't dependent on integration with a giant tech corporation.

  • I was like you once. Had to move back in with my parents, couldn't find a job for months on end. Floating through life without a fire in me felt like shit. Your problems aren't trivial. Things will get better. Forgive the platitude, but despite what you believe right now, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I had/have a terrible anxiety disorder (still working on it to some degree, but I'm able to control it now) that was eating my life and my happiness away. What helped me tremendously was looking inward and asking why I feel these things without indulging any thoughts that came up. Objectively analyzing each thought and feeling without judgement. Each new revelation was followed by "well, why is that true?" Your emotions aren't there for no reason, they're indicators of your internal state like warning lights. Asking why they're going off will lead you to the answers you want.

From there, I accepted that my parents were straight up emotionally neglectful/abusive. I won't delve into it for brevity, but I encourage you to objectively analyze your relationship with your parents. When I did that, I realized they were the source of my insecurities. Their constant criticism disguised as "jokes" and boundary breaking spawned that horrible anxiety disorder. Maybe your parents have done something similar?

Read The Body Keeps the Score. It echoes pretty much everything I've said here. The best part? It's empirically validated, no woo-woo bullshit.

I hope this helped even a tiny bit.

  • Tankies on their way to hate private ownership and dictatorship of the bourgeoisie so much that they begin to love state ownership and dictatorship of the bureacracy

  • The lack of continuous and backlogged content. For some this is a benefit because it gives them a reason to stop scrolling, but for others who come here to look for answers, find entertainment, or anonymously voice their opinions, this can be something of a downside.

Of course this platform is as anonymous as you make it, but I've seen some people say they refrain from commenting more often because they don't want to be known as a regular, instead wanting to "blend in to the crowd" as one would on more populous sites like Reddit or Twitter.

  • These shit-quality shitposts are like the spaz kid at lunchtime showing you his "meme collection" against your will. I get serious secondhand embarrassment from seeing them. It's sad seeing Lemmy's shitpost community devolve into 9gag/ifunny.

  • For real. They weren't even funny the first time they came around in 2018. Shitposts used to be quality

  • I actually just had this problem a couple weeks back. I was using revanced spotify but I had to keep re-patching it because it kept breaking. Eventually, I became so frustrated I said fuck spotify and found ViTune which is a fork of ViMusic (which is now defunct).

It workes exactly how I would want a music app to work. No accounts, no algorithms, just search for the song you want. You might get a playback error if you're using a VPN, but that's literally the only complaint I have about it.

  • I love the idea, but wouldn't it be one of those old web indices (like a site or book that was just a list of other sites) with a keyword search function? Like a centralized webring with user submissions?
