  • These are empty labels, it's a corrupted government imo. And the economic boom in Spain is non-existent if we look a bit closer, at least that's what practically all economists say. The linked report makes its inference from a the consumer credits.

    As others have said in this thread, the aggressor uses its own narratives, but the messages is clear. And it may never have been so clear as in the case of China which is openly threatening Taiwan with invasion.

    In October this year, at the Chinese Communist Party congress, the party-state leader Xi Jinping openly said that they are "not committed to abandoning the use of force and we reserve the option to take all necessary measures" for what he calls the "reunification" with Taiwan. (It can, of course, never be a reunification as Taiwan was never part of China.)

    Two weeks later, Peng Qing'en, a spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, echoed this by saying that "we absolutely will not renounce the use of force and reserve the option to take all necessary measures."

    I guess "all necessary measures" means all necessary measures.

    In November this year, a Chinese diplomat made a comment which can only be interpreted as a threat to behead Japanese PM Takaichi over her support for Taiwan.

    In 2023, then Chinese ambassador to Japan threatened, “The Japanese people will be led into the pit of fire” if Tokyo decides to stand with Taiwan.

    As others have already said, Taiwan is not the only Chinese target. In December 2024, for example, a video was circulating on Chinese social media that shows how China should conquer parts of Siberia up to lake Baikal.

    A few weeks ago, an Indian woman was detained in Shanghai because her place of birth - a region in Northwestern India - is claimed by Beijing as "Chinese territory."

    At few days ago, civilian Filipino ships have been attacked by China's coast guards that injured several people.

    There is a sheer endless list of aggressive behaviour by China against practically literally all its neighbours, you'll easily find reports if you want to.

But European economies seem to be a bit better positioned than their peers in other parts of the world. Just wait what happens in China if domestic consumption doesn't get up soon. The country is facing its first asset investment decline in 30 years, its domestic property market - usually contributing ~20 percent of the country's GDP - has been increasingly facing troubles with bankruptcies of companies that were once seen as 'role models' for China's economic strength.

    The current issues in Germany and Europe are strong reason for a further de-risking policy and a re-industrialization, producing more on the continent rather than betting in cheap imports.

    Investments by private persons in solar roof tops depend on a variety of factors, but at least in Western Europe they break even much sooner than 20 years (if this is what you mean, I don't understand what 'double the money' should mean in this context).

    This is false. It would be interesting to know where you got this number from. A recent "Not made in China" auction in Italy ended up in a tariff that was 17% higher than the average price for a renewable auction earlier this year with no such a restriction. This number is also what I would say is reasonable for the average home owner in the West. And it's definitely worth the price.

    This is a myth, it's not true.

    Chinese platforms -as well as all Chinese companies in all sectors- employ their own supply chains. Products from Temu, Shein, AliExpress contain, among others, toxic chemicals at far higher levels than what is allowed in the EU or by any Western standards. Companies like Temu or Shein fail to meet legal standard regarding product safety and environmental and consumer protection. There are many reports from multiple independent sources. I don't understand why these platforms aren't shut down completely. They are a threat to your health. And the working conditions in these Chinese sweatshops are desastrous.

    This is also why China has been heavily opposing any transparency laws of global supply chains. It's a closed shop. If Chinese companies like BYD or CATL built battery factories abroad, they even send their own workers. And they work under slave-like conditions as Brazil's authorities revealed this year at a Brazilian BYD plant:

    [Brazilian authorities] said it had identified "163 workers who appeared to be in slave-like conditions". .. workers were kept in "an alarming situation of precariousness" and subjected to "degrading working conditions."

    "In one of the accommodations, workers slept on beds without mattresses and had no wardrobes for their personal effects, which were mixed together with food supplies," the ministry said, adding that there was only one toilet for every 31 workers.

    The ministry also said that it suspected that "forced labor" had occurred, as workers' passports had been confiscated and 60% of their salary had been retained. The statement said that those who quit their jobs would be forced to pay the company for their airfare from China and their return ticket.

    The working situation is similar at Chinese suppliers working for Temu, Shein & Co.

    And Western shops can't sell such toxic products as they would be closed immediately if they did. This alone is a reason why Temu and Shein and all others that don't play by the rules should be banned immediately and forever.

    Not that I would generally oppose higher enforceable accountability for social media platforms, but how would 'this shit gonna drop off a cliff' as Russia is

    • hacking government ministries, parliaments, and defense institutions
    • targeting critical infrastructure such as energy grids, transport systems and air traffic control
    • orchestrating acts of sabotage against railways, cables, pipelines, or military logistics
    • surveilling or targeting of infrastructure linked to Ukraine support
    • encouraging or facilitating irregular migration toward EU border

    Even the points related to social media would not help, as Russia would certainly continue its influence campaigns.

    It must be clearly said that the main problem here is Russia and its 'decisive enabler,' China.

  • Italy's measures are aiming at all online platforms, but given the country's strong fashion industry they are more eying at China's Shein and Temu as they are selling more fashion. So it seems reasonably if this is used as an example here imo.

  • There are considerably more languages than the official 24 in the EU, and this is exactly one reason among many why the continent will grow by both strengthening cooperation within as well as welcoming new members like Moldova and Ukraine. An explanation how this can take place wouldn't make sense, though, as magas, tankies and the like wouldn't understand even if they wanted.
