2·5 months agoAppreciate the info! I had been trying out the new Cosmic DE that ships with pop os and I’m guessing that’s still lacking HDR but did feel very performant. I’ll have to see if switching is worth the trade off once they nvidia driver update gets released

1·5 months agoHas support for DP 2.1 or HDR in Wayland made any improvements yet? I tried Pop_OS and had lots of issues with this
https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules/issues/816
I’ve been following this GitHub issue waiting for this change to make it into the next nvidia driver release but still suspect this won’t address HDR. Obviously first world problems for high end hardware but it’s one of the last pieces holding me back from trying Linux on my desktop

40·10 months agoIt’s actually really frustrating that a plan of similar scope to undo all the damage and fortify our democracy hasn’t been released or at least hinted. It’s clear a huge portion of what were thought to be core components of how our government functions and maintains a balance of power were vulnerable to hostile actors and we need to patch these holes and harden our institutions against future attacks. Democrats need a project 2029 designed to protect against future project 2025 style attempts, assuming they get the chance

Android@lemdro.id•Nest Learning Thermostat leaks with new features and UI, Google Home updateEnglish
2·2 years agoIt’s been supported for years but definitely one of the least user friendly cloud setups
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/nest/
Have to set up both a cloud project and device access project and configure pub/sub all within Google cloud services just to get it to talk to home assistant. And then obviously the entire integration is still cloud dependent. And there’s a $5 fee on top of that to get access to these services which while not much is still annoying. The API support is also limited and doesn’t support newer features like the additional temperature sensor pucks (which have been out for like 2-3 years)
There are a few zwave thermostats out there and ecobee can be set up using HomeKit for completely cloudless local control so I’ll be jumping on one of those to get rid of the nest.

11·2 years agoI was an earlier adopter of nest and I while it was initially cool my next thermostat will be something with support for local control and better home assistant integration not tied to the cloud
