  • Hmm. Assuming you have some small hydrazine or whatever booster you could maintain a low orbit for a while. But yes not endlessly. That bring said there is a middle ground between 400km and 34000km that might provide for a good orbit and acceptable ping. That all depends on the application of course.

  • Servers get replaced that often because they are using too much energy for too little computing power compared to newer generations. If the module is already up there and functioning and energy is free then it's a whole different thing.

    Defects are another topic.

And the whole thing is obviously crazy for a whole lot of other reasons.

  • Not trying to be an asshole, just giving info: the radiation shielding on earth is achieved (mostly?) by the magnetic field that diverts the big particle cannon ammunition.

  • No, that works well with Starlink for example. But only because it's in low earth orbit. In geostationary orbit You do in fact have a horrible ping.

Not being familiar with the details of this Elon brain fart I would hope they didn't aim for geostationary... Because why?? Then again who knows with that idiot.

  • I switched from tail scale to pangolin for reverse proxy. Does everything. Auth, VPN, hidden services, public services. Fantastic piece of software

  • Aiaiai du hast aber eine Laune heute ...

Und generell: Anspruch? Hier? Hort des Bodenloser humors? Stöhr? Zugvogel? Gadse?

  • Der Inhalt des Artikels ist der Witz. Was soll Mensch dem noch hinzufügen?

  • This is beautiful!

I was looking for a way to stream to sonos, an I just blind or is it not implemented?

  • Don't know if this fits for your use case but I am in love with pangolin.

  • Pcie is ridiculously fast. I think you will have a hard time making out even a 1x pcie 4.0 slot with hdds. It can do 1.9 gbytes per second.

  • Innocent until proven guilty also apply to though crime.

You might want to separate people that are a potential hazard but that sets a dangerous precedent.

Also: somebody that might be easily angered and might hit somebody in a bar when drunk should be locked away preemptively?

  • The thing You don't seem to understand is that rapists committed rape and need to be punished. Pedophilia is a disorder that if it's manifesting in a person may never have any impact on another person. Why? Because there are different ways it can affect somebody with the disorder. For some it might be a emotional thing, completely isolated from the world. For some it might just be a though of realizing that they are attracted to a person that is too young.

ACTING on these impulses is the problem. And that becomes way more likely when people don't realize their pedophilic tendencies because they surpress any reflected thoughts since it's a taboo to even consider that this disorder exists. And seeking help is even harder for the same reasons. So yes, Public shaming of EVERYONE that has this disorder is definitely not a smart move. Shaming and punishing people that act on it: yes please.

  • This developed further. Better be done with it and stay safe. Read the linked reddit thread for info.

  • No argument there, rub two things together and there is going to be debris of some kind.

The thing you said about the body reacting to and not with the particles got me thinking. You are absolutely right about that since asbestos causes exactly the same problem by not being degraded. It is safe to assume PTFE creates a similar effect.

  • Common misconception that the coating itself is the problem. The manufacturing of the coating is bad, when it's on there you can digest the flakes and they don't do anything. That's kinda the point of them, being inert. Correct me if I misunderstood this!

  • I am always wondering about that ... It says alumina which is afaik a precursor to aluminum. Doesn't make it safe but not automatically hazardous. I am a chemistry noob so take this with a grain of salt. Speaking of salt: NaCl is table salt, Na or Cl will kill you. Tricky! Does anybody want to shed some light if this is something to consider regarding alumina?

  • That sounds like you are on it! Let us know where land.

So far this is nothing id consider as evidence but as plausible speculation. Not necessarily wrong but ... It's not enough for me to put my money on it.
