  • Reminder, dass nichts über 0% AfD je normalisiert werden darf

  • Weiß ich nicht, ist doch irgendwo CDU mit bisschen farbig lackiert

  • Also dogs differ a loooot more in their DNA than humans. Humans are pretty homogeneous genetically speaking with only 0.6% inter-individual differences. And of those differences, only a small fraction is related to different geographical backgrounds

  • Since most of these comments are quite over the top: The worst way to do it imo that you can still realistically do every time you put your shoes on without much issue is wrapping the laces around the sole of the shoe so you walk on the laces with every step.

  • I mean you pretty much answered your own question. The UK never colonised China to anything even remotely close to the degree they colonised India. Which is also why there's more than 4 times as many people with Indian heritage in the UK than with Chinese heritage. So there's absolutely zero reason why there should be as many Chinese restaurants/dishes in the UK as there are Indian restaurants/dishes.

  • Being politically active is so much more than just voting. So many options to do more. You can write to your representatives or call them. You can donate to NGOs fighting for what you believe in. You can be vocal in your opinion on the internet or towards colleagues, friends and family. You can take part in demonstrations or even organise. And a lot of other options.

The mentality of "I vote, what more can I do" is so defeatist and a huge part of the reason why the political right wing can do what they do.

  • I knew it was bad in the US. I didn't know it was this bad. Like what do you mean, only 77% offer paid time off on public holidays?

  • You don't want to ban advertising, you want people to have an interest in only making their services known honestly and with the intention of letting people know "this exists" instead of with the intention of getting people to buy something. Because it's actually good to let people know where they can get services or goods and what kinds of services and goods are available. And the only way to truly get to this point is by abolishing capitalism. As long as capitalism exists, there will always be incentive for people to make advertising more than just letting people know. As long as capitalism exists, you can do stuff like "going after false advertising more rigorously", "banning certain types of ads" or "restricting how many ads are allowed and where they are allowed". But that only limits the harm advertising can do, it can never stop it completely.

  • Depends on your interpretation of better. My parents definitely led a more comfortable life filled with more happiness. At my age, they had already been able to settle down and establish themselves professionally. Meanwhile I'm struggling to find a job, may never be able to buy a flat and have been mentally ill since I was 13.

Morally though I am fully convinced I lead a much better life than them. I live more sustainable and climate-friendly. I am politically active trying to change the world for the better and fighting discrimination. In the work I do I try to help young people along in their journey, while my mother as part of her job has been keeping homeless people homeless.

I would not want to have led my parents' lives. Even though they are far better off than I will ever be in many regards, I am proud playing a tiny part in changing the world for the better where they were at least complicit in the world staying that way.

  • I think I'd be good at that, considering how much I listened to the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack

  • Anyone recommending CryptPad as an alternative to Google Docs is pretentious af to me or is only using it on PC. The mobile version of CryptPad is the most unusable clunky bullshit ever.

  • Ironically, when cishet men are being hunted for sport, it's usually by other cishet men

  • Everywhere could be better off without a government, not just the US.

  • It's German for "the West, the"

  • cats @lemmy.world

How can I show my cats they don't have to fight for attention?

  • Also fun fact, Schmitt actually is the direct translation of Smith

  • I'm lucky in that about 1/4 of women's shoes in my size actually fit my feet. But I also have had a number of heels where I helped myself out by buying them a tiny bit too large and then wearing 2-4 pairs of socks.

  • Social Media itself doesn't imo, but if a food becomes trendy, often times restaurants or bistros try to sell that food and do it badly, but cheaply. So people who don't know better could buy it there, at times increasing issues for people who (1) make a good but pricier option or (2) want to find good options but are overwhelmed by bad ones. In my opinion, this happened with Chimney Cakes for example. They have Hungarian and Romanian roots and in the original form I think it's a very nice treat. But a stale and weird version filled with shit like ice cream has become so popular for tourists, that it has become harder in many places to find good, fresh chimney cake.

  • Everyone is obsessed with ruining Pizza, so our regional "Dünnele" (or I think "Dinnete" for Swabians) is very unharmed. Like, if someone sells "Dünnele" I've never seen them be shit or butchered.

  • As a German: There's nothing to ruin, it's already shit

What is your response to people saying "data privacy doesn't matter because it's all out there anyway"?
