  • What was the threat they were trying to stay from?

    • Hurt feelings from not having their authority respected.
    • Being reprimanded for not meeting their monthly arrest quota.
    • The idea that they might eventually be the minorities.

    Take your pick.

  • Are they gonna lower flags to half mast?

No, but I'm sure they themselves are at full mast after hearing about it.

  • To prevent future radicalization and violence, the CEOs of Discord, Steam, Twitch, and Reddit must appear before the Oversight Committee and explain what actions they will take to ensure their platforms are not exploited for nefarious purposes

In other words, explain what you'll be doing to add censorship to your platforms.

They really could not have picked a worse demographic to try that on. Not only do online gamers despise censorship and policing, their vocal minority is known for being extremely toxic and unrelenting. The icing on the cake is that a good number of them are right-wing, too.

Have fun dealing with the shitstorm you're about to create!

  • Remember, they're conservatives hypocrites. The correct answer is that conservative DEI is fine, while regular DEI is woke and bad.

  • Remove half of the context and it finally becomes accurate:

No one has ever been as hard as I am when it comes to exploitation, particularly, they say, the sexual exploitation of children. No one has ever been as hard.

  • Hypocrisy is a demonstration of weakness in accepting fault and/or being able to justify one's position in the face of contradicting evidence.

The only reason it manages to work for him is because his followers are the manifestation of confirmation bias and are willfully ignorant about anything he says or does that they don't agree with.

  • Science: gathering evidence to confirm your hypothesis."Science": finding evidence to support your conclusion.

    MAGA/MAHA: "they're the same picture"

  • Saying they are complicit suggests they're quietly looking the other way. If you look at our good friends at Fox or Newsmax, they are enthusiastically going whole-hog into it.

  • Where are we on the hardness scale? Pudding? Have we finally made it to Jello?

I think we might be at oversized bean-bag full of baby duck down feathers. It's still a far cry from pudding, though

  • No, it really is. Tankies live in a fantasy land, thinking the wildfire is greener on the other side of the fence.

Something can be said about unregulated, late-stage capitalism and American imperialism. The former is a malignant cancer that consumes all in its wake and demands infinite growth for itself and the ones who direct it. The latter, in service of the former, is a threat to the rest of the developed and undeveloped world.

Those are entirely reasonable criticisms, calling an apple an apple. Unchecked capitalism empowering sociopathic, self-serving oligarchs will kill us all.

Genuinely thinking of China (or Russia) as anything other than a competitor to America is just trading one leather boot for a different flavor of leather boot. They are both capitalist states, and they are both acting in their own self-interests of cultural and economic dominance. The only effective difference is that one calls itself a republic while presenting the illusion of democracy, and the other calls itself communist while presenting the illusion of Marxism.

  • People with high end systems (5090s etc) are apparent having a lot of performance issues, and are unable to run the game at 60fps/4k without AI upscaling or frame generation.

It's even better when you realize that the performance degrades the longer you've been playing that session. It's unoptimized and leaky.

  • During this admin, no doubt about it. Previous ones at least had competent leadership that were hired for their expertise instead of loyalty, however.

  • You do realize that the original post is on lemmy.zip and not lemmygrad, right?

  • Didn't even need that long. Right-wing outlets (Fox, Daily Mail) are now posting articles about "sources" (which they do not elaborate on) confirming to them that shooter's roommate was his "transgender partner".

The Daily Mail tries very hard to imply a romantic partnership in the first few paragraphs despite no evidence of such, then go on to clarify they don't know the relationship details after priming the reader.

Charlie Kirk shooting suspect 'was living with transgender partner who handed over texts about assassination plot to the police'

The partner – who shared a three-bedroom apartment with Robinson in Utah – is said to be 'fully co-operating' with the FBI.

The room-mate is understood to have handed over text messages allegedly sent by Robinson after the killing, apparently saying where to retrieve the rifle used in the assassination after it was left in a wooded area.

A source told Fox News: 'The shooter was living with a transgender man who was transitioning from male to female.

'The status of their relationship isn't known. They were friends who enjoyed playing video games together.

Fox, as usual, doesn't give a shit about waiting for more evidence and just says what they think would get the most engagement:

Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin lived with transgender partner who is now cooperating with FBI: Officials

Bureau officials confirmed that Tyler Robinson, 22, was in a "romantic relationship" with the unnamed person, who is a male transitioning to a female, and that they shared an apartment in Saint George, Utah. Those FBI officials told Fox News Digital that Robinson's partner is fully cooperating with the FBI's investigation.

  • What a fool-proof solution, Brian. In fact, it's such a perfect solution that there's no need for any other solution. You should call it "the Final Solution" and see how far you get with that.

  • It's only cancel culture when those "woke, Democrat libs" do it. When a Republican does it, it's called "justice".

    I hate this timeline.

  • Let me fix that for you:

Reactions Anything that doesn't align with their feelings is fake news to them.

You could publish two contradictory statements at the same time, and they would cherry-pick the one they agree with while dismissing the one they don't as fake or liberal propaganda.

  • I’m kinda low key worried he will be from a conservative family who realized there is a lot of bullshit and started aligning with the left. Because that will be a dog whistle for loyalists to kill freedom of speech online.

    He likely is.

The Daily Mail is normally a worthless heap of right-wing garbage, but they turned out to be somewhat informative (and with zero journalistic ethics) by posting family photos of the suspect: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15086467/amp/Tyler-Robinson-Charlie-Kirk-killer-identified-Utah-Trump.html

    • One of those photos is Robinson smiling while wearing a Trump costume for Halloween.
    • The family is also religious, evidenced by the dad had him go to a minister before turning himself in.
    • Both parents are registered Republicans.
  • I looked at the list. It's, ironically and unsurprisingly, the exact same thing they claim the left is doing to them: trying to cancel people for exercising their free speech rights.

It even includes people's current employers and the cities they live in. Even better, though, is that they don't even limit it to just people who are celebrating or calling for more violence—they include memes and comments pointing out the irony of the situation, Kirk's hypocrisy, people expressing their reservation of sympathy/empathy, and even a couple of comments that are literally just people expressing their worry about how the right will react to Kirk's death.
