  • I loved Perfume. The movie is a lot of fun as well.

  • Totally. If it had been described it to me, I'd have probably passed on it. But a friend of mine highly recommended it, and I'm glad that I listened. It's more interesting than it sounds, and its such a quick, enjoyable read.

  • People demonstrably vote, including leftists. I also never said that not voting is going to move politicians to the left.

  • Huh, weird. I haven't dated in a looooong time, so I cant say if anything would be off about that.

  • That used to fail pretty frequently for me. It wasn't the worst bug, but it was pretty annoying.

  • I've always tried to phrase it as "What do you do?", skipping the "for a living" part. That opens it up to more than just work. It could be "What do you do for a hobby?", or "What do you do for fun?", or "What do you do in your free time?", etc.

Sure, it's not the best conversation starter, but when I know nothing about someone, it's a good way to get the ball rolling.

  • Totally. I remember this happening back when everyone was using forums. This is a "Social Media" problem, not just a Lemmy problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but it's been around longer than votes have been a thing.

  • I'm not happy, that's why I voted against him, and the politicians that enabled him. While I don't think the Democrats would have done the same thing, they would have continued building out his infrastructure (like they did last time), as well as continue bombing kids, backing a genocide, taking from the poor and working class and giving to the rich, etc etc....

You know, the things they claim to be better on, but aren't.

  • Well, maybe if we had a Lefty candidate to vote for, more of us would have. But all I saw from the two main parties last time were two right-wing candidates.

  • He totally knows. He's just trying to cover for the guy

  • And many protestants!

  • This is a good start, but why can people be held for 7 days? That seems crazy to me.

  • They do. Check out Mamdani, who had record-breaking voters turn out. Remember FDR? They voted so hard for him, that Congress had to set up term-limits. It turns out that this "Leftists don't vote meme" is bullshit. Leftists just don't want to vote for Right-Wingers, which is why they never show up for Democrats.

  • We're not going to get the things that we want from the Democratic party. They've been overwhelmingly clear that they would rather keep losing elections than give us any of those things. Why would I keep investing in a party that openly and strongly tells me "No, go fuck yourself. We're gonna keep bombing children" ?

If you want to try and fix the Democrats, then go get em tiger. I have no problems with others trying to fix it from the inside. But I'm not wasting my time with them.
