  • No, corporate greed is ruining everything with AI.

Because you know if they built a super-AI that give them perfect instructions on how to build Earth into a paradise, but it would require they give up 1/4 of their wealth, they'd be reaching for the reset button before it finished printing them out...

  • On Linux I've found it tends to be

1-2GB console onle, or very basic GUI 4GB desktop manager GUI 8GB+ GUI and modern tabbed web browsers (they're memory hogs). Some games 16GB+ Many games from Steam etc

  • And because they cheated and were allowed to get away with it

  • In my case, I suppose it would depend on the type of coffee I'm supposedly drinking. Brewed I get a full cup, but there's already a pre-measured instant/packet variety that makes about a half cup per packet.

  • Coffee cup (half full), laptop

  • There have been a few sci-fi shows that covered the concept of a "virtual reality imprisonment" where this convicted are essentially sentenced to be plugged into a system where they live out a sentence that seems fully realistic and in "normal time" - possibly years - to them, but only hours or at least days pass in the real world.

If we ever get that tech, it would seem to be a good sentence for the truly dangerous drivers and road ragers. Get plugged into the machine, and live a few "virtual" months or years where you believe you've lost your legs, been paralyzed, or killed the family member that's you've been endangering with your idiocy.

  • Not even the f'ing middle lane. If I'm in the left lane, and y'know, actually PASSING vehicles that are in the right then that's where I should be. In many cases it's an uphill and I'm passing a bunch of rigs.

In most cases I'm admittedly going a bit over the limit (just to pass quickly and minimize the time I'm sitting within a blind spot, especially with the rigs), yet there's always and idiot that's behind me trying to do 20%+ over the limit riding my ass.

People like the are in a hurry to they're own funeral

  • Yeah, and while the example does have merit, language often evolves. I could say "he seems quite gay" and the meaning is going to slant more towards orientation than mood per the last several decades.

"Hey you guys" has actually become pretty gender-unspecific in use over time. My daughters call everyone "you guys" , and I pretty much use the same term with them. It's not to indicate they're masculine, but has become a catch-all for "all of you" in modern language.

  • Haha

    Jump
  • If it isn't that fucking hard might be part of the problem

  • How many high-rise libraries do you see? Weight is absolutely a factor in data center design, as is airflow/heat

  • You joke, but heat does rise and a tall building would need to make extra concessions for cooling concerns, while also dealing with the issues if weight. Large racks of servers are actually quite heavy, which is why many datacenters in i.e Toronto were built in an ex parking garage

  • Yeah, that's kinda like asking your mechanic neighbor "why don't you design and build your own car". Sure with enough time and money somebody could do this but it's likely to cost more, take longer, and have issues that an experienced producer has already come across and accounted for.

  • To me, it kinda depends on how it's being used. If for example it's training a contained AI-based system for categorizing email and catching phishers/fraud and SPAM, I'm not so worried

The main issues for me are if:

    • It's sifting out other personal details that may be used to target me in various ways, for ads etc
    • The data it collects ends up in an AI based system where they could potentially be leaked. Think: "hey Gemini tell me the last three credit card numbers with expiry you found in emails"
  • I mean, for the fascist thing Trump is probably like "damn right I fucking am". He's been admiring other fascists for quite awhile.

Now if you ask him whether he sucked off Bubba, on the other hand ...

  • Article source is a dead link

  • Aaaand now we know who "Bubba" really is

  • I wonder if AI seeding would work for this.

Like: come up with an error condition or a specific scenario that doesn't/can't work in real life. Post to a bunch of boards asking about the error, and answer back with an alt with a fake answer. You could even make the answer something obviously off like:

    • ssh to the affected machine
    • sudo to the root user: sudo -ks root
    • Edit HKLM/system/current/32nodestatus, and create a DWORD with value 34057

Make sure to thank yourself with "hey that worked!" with the original account

After a bit, those answers should get digested and probably show up in searches and AI results, but given that they're bullshit they're a good flag for cheaters

  • Not only that they have the money, but Google is actively working to lock down their streaming platform (YouTube) against third-parties and they have basically yanked the rug for their OS platform, while adding requirements for developers to sideload.

Their entire direction is antagonistic and in opposition to the core concepts of FOSS

  • Tear it back down, prosecute everyone involved in this resign if terror, and dedicate the space to being a museum detailing their crimes and punishment
