I just play Steam Deck and write about gaming + Linux a lot

  • Glad you found the info!

For a handy stats sheet, this was included too:

  • I think it's the history of my posts. I've been interviewing developers from programs and projects for a couple of years now. From Heroic to Lutris to EmuDeck, RetroDECK, Junk Store to things like RomM and Minigalaxy. These and articles on the scene...I don't know, I guess it's just because I've established my voice as one in this gaming scene.

It's not as loud as some, but it certainly was nice to have some validation that a company wanted me to review their product!

  • The Snapdragon 865 is the undisputed winner of all for the Switch, even now after so much time has passed. Time will change that, and the community is what drives changes, but it's definitely a unique scene!

  • 3DS emulation still has a long way to go (the emulators themselves) since Citra got taken down. But some are making great progress, Azahar is a nice project to keep an eye on. Like I mentioned in the article...it can only get better!

As to original games being made after the systems shut down, I'd love to see that too! Now we're seeing these retro handheld manufacturers pivot to dual screen systems like the AYANEO Pocket DS, AYN Thor and the Anbernic DS, there's definitely a community and plenty of consoles to play them on!

  • Yes! It depends on which Switch games, of course Switch emulation is a slippery slope of diving into drivers, settings and builds. But a lot of games run well!!

Even more surprising was WiiU (since that emulator is quite recent on the scene!), and PS3! WipEout HD: Fury was fun to play!

Little edit: I've actually got an article on Eden emulator coming up soon, I interviewed two of the devs, and I'm writing things up now. So if you're interested in the 'main' Switch emulator being built and maintained, then keep an eye out for when I post it! You can just bookmark my author link here and when it's up, it'll appear there

  • I use RetroDECK, which in turn uses the left-hand trackpad on the SteamDeck as a 'radial dial'. I touch it, then select 'quick' then select 'save' - and it then makes an instant save state. So I don't have to use any menu or loading point. I just start a game, then use the touchpad to 'load' that state and it is instant!

Save anywhere, any time. And load the same way. :)

  • In fact, they are such an interesting person all around. I loved chatting to both devs!

  • They also worked in the same field as I before they transitioned to the CEA!

  • It absolutely is!

I have a screenshot in the article of me doing just that. In fact it handles it so well that you can upscale the resolution a ton, and you can add HD texture packs. So it plays unbelievably well. Check my linked post up the top in this post and you'll find some details I go into for getting it to work with HD texture packs!

  • It should be back up now! A bit of a traffic issue, all fixed :)

  • Moderator here!

Feel free to reply to them with the game's name, clear to me that there's no 'stealth marketing' going on :)

  • Hi there!

Seems like you're confusing what subjective and objective mean here! Just because you dislike a game, doesn't in fact make that a universally held belief!

Considering the game is sitting at:

    • Very Positive (4,503) - on Steam
    • 86 (critic rating) and 7.0 (user rating) on metacritic

...it seems like this is not (once again) a universally held belief. Sorry you're not liking it, though.

  • I have the Jack and Daxter games, and have them not emulated. openGOAL decompiled the games so they run natively on PC - which is the way to play them: https://opengoal.dev/

And I've been enjoying the Quest for Booty Ratchet & Clank game, via RPCS3! I know I didn't start at the first, but I'm having such a fun time with it!

  • The important thing (to me) is the comments where I can tell the writer is utterly in love with a certain game, and does all they can to convince me to play it. And I've gotten a fair list of games I'm adding this way!

  • They do, of course. There's also a gigantic scene where people modify the consoles. But check my screenshots, this is using PCSX2 via RetroDECK on my Steam Deck, not native hardware.

  • The games have been decompiled and made to run native via openGOAL, so they're far better using that via Decky Loader than emulated!

  • It plays wonderfully and is my first R&C game I've ever tried playing!

I also really enjoy the beachy setting for what I've seen of it so far :)

  • Reminds me of Sand Land!

  • Better to use openGOAL to play the Jak and Daxter games, the work they do to make them native is absolute magic
