This is somehow less of a gut-punch than 2016 when everyone just assumed Americans would do the right thing and not elect Trump. It still sucks, but it’s less of a surprise. The writing was kind of on the wall for awhile though, just given the fact that the election was as close as it was. Even if Trump hadn’t won, that he was able to run the most garbage campaign in history and was still tying it up was pretty damning of America.
So now we watch as we just peacefully transfer power to the most vile, irresponsible person on Earth and watch the world burn.
It is a much better situation than we were in just a few short months ago, so we've got that going for us, BUT we're living in the age of huge organizations not being able to stick the landing and epic faceplants that are screwing up countries/empires virtually overnight, so... yeah.
It's such a weird precipice we're standing on, we either take a step back and go back to the status quo, which arguably isn't fantastic, but it's livable. Or we jump off the edge into a fascist dictatorship where someone with brain worms is trying to ban vaccines, remove fluoride from the water system, Ukraine possibly falls against Russia, the US becomes a third world banana republic, civil rights are vastly curtailed, and likely the environment takes a huge nosedive and life on earth becomes a nightmare hellscape.
Like, how the fuck is this even a close election? Hopeful based on some reporting I've seen, but it's not even noon, so no idea where things go from here.
That's perfect, that's where I communicate to people what the voices are telling me! I expect they'll just start showering me with money when I begin the ritual ejaculation.
Conservatives are likely just more emotional in general, their lives seem to be more dominated by emotions. Happiness, fear, anger, they just live in these extremes without any real thought about the reasons behind it. They just get triggered by whatever buzzwords the Party trots out for them, without any real mental analysis or realization of the manipulation that’s going on.
Seems a little too little too late for it to move the needle much, especially given how much early voting has happened. Harris’s position on Israel has been so bizarre, pretty sure Israel has even been actively working against Democrats this whole time anyways.
How did he ever have support from them in the first place? Did these black voters not make the connection between Trump and his supporters being Nazis and those being the same people who would be/still are in the KKK?
I think it happens all over and sometimes it really kind of depends on how long your argument is and the general impression people get from the first part of it. If you’re making a devil’s advocate argument in the first part, but then the twist comes later on, people are going to think your first devil’s advocate argument is the gist of it and downvote you based on that alone without getting into the nitty gritty. If people can form a knee-jerk reaction within the first few seconds of reading your post, they will, nuance gets lost.
That was one of the biggest things that took me out of that movie. They stage this huge operation at the Gotham Stock Exchange or wherever, everybody knows this giant crime is happening there, but woops, looks like Bruce Wayne has been magically bankrupted, there's nothing we can do about it. It just took me out of it thinking, "I don't think you can just bankrupt a billionaire like that."
"Shit, who was I voting for again? Harriet? Harold? Harburg? The other name started with a W or a V or something right? Oh wait, this guy's name is Vance, that must be it. I'm voting for Trump & Vance, almost screwed that one up!"
I find happiness getting lost in projects, projects being anything & everything from writing to designing to stuff around the house to whatever. Just something that gets me obsessed for at least a few days or weeks. I can’t predict when it will happen, it just has to be a sufficient problem for me to look at.
I also find happiness with some people, but that sort of happiness is unpredictable as well since people have their own lives going on and feelings can change over time. Getting too close to people though can just as easily make my life feel meaningless and make me depressed when things turn sour. I tend to crave affection and physical touch, so this is a hard one for me to just ignore this.
