oxomoxo@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump Spotted After Widespread And Giddy Speculation He Is Secretly Dead Or Dying91·19 days agoImagine if you will a scenario in which a photographer, taking more than one picture of an event in time. And then stretch that imagination a little further that said photographer could release some photos in 2019 and then other photos from the same event 6 years later. Then imagine, just for shits and giggles, that a president has a team of people who are managing public perception.
Just so we’re clear my point is it’s weird, not proof of anything, just really fuckin weird considering this guy’s history.
oxomoxo@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Trump Spotted After Widespread And Giddy Speculation He Is Secretly Dead Or Dying101·19 days agoSuch a confusing take. You start by saying they used old photo, which is my point, as they are claiming this photo is proof of life, since he hadn’t been seen in three days.
Then you insinuate I am saying it’s not possible for him to wear the same clothes or ride in the same car as 6 years ago.
Sure it’s possible that this is all coincidence and yep he’s got the same SUV and the same clothes and the photographer had to stand at the same location.
I just think the probability is lower that this is proof that Trump is prancing around golf courses kicking balls closer to holes. Just seems a little odd.
Like the probability that someone gets grazed by a bullet and the wound magically disappeared or that politicians create fake files planting the presidents name in them for 30 years. Sure, could happen…
My point is something’s fucky with this whole thing.

The picture in the Mediate article is a cropped version of the one in this article which has been circulating all day.
Look at the license plate, the shoes and clothes.
Tourism has definitely slowed, but it’s not like in this video. You can confirm this by looking at the live cameras of the strip.
Same is true for the airport videos. Yes travel has slowed pretty significantly but people are exaggerating to get clicks.

The back side needs to be made opaque, which can be done numerous way… sharpie, enamel paint, or for something less permanent you can still buy CD labels which are vinyl or paper sheets die cut to the size of a CD and coated with an adhesive.
Probably the best way to fix this is to just download the file and play it from a device like a civilized person.

There is a group actively working to open source Insulin manufacturing to make it practical to self produce.
The intersection of female Linux user and female YouTuber is very small, however there are female Linux user groups, which are much larger, who often meet at conferences. Might be something to look into.
Andrea Borman is interesting…
This is due to the way Reddit handles video. The video and the audio are two separate files that are combined by Reddit embedded media player. There are tools to combine them however I usually just go to the source to get the original instead or trying to pull it from Reddit.

oxomoxo@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Mom jailed for letting 10-year-old walk alone to townEnglish1·10 months agoI haven’t seen many references to Reason, and previous to this story I had not heard of them before. Most of the stories I am seeing are sourcing the mother. She seems to be doing a lot of interviews.
I never made claims regarding knowing the full story. Not sure anyone can know the full story until the other parties start talking. I was only responding to the claim that the story should be dismissed because of the source, and claims of what the sources motivations are.
I am supportive of reserving judgement for when more information comes out. I am just not supportive of jumping to the conclusion that because the linked article is from a questionable or biased source that it is automatically dismissed as fabrication and/or propaganda. Especially when there is so many organization who seem to be in defense of the mother.
oxomoxo@lemmy.worldto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Mom jailed for letting 10-year-old walk alone to townEnglish57·10 months agoAs a middle aged father of two grown boys, one of the things I wish I had done better was encourage them to go out on their own more. Their mother would always be so worried, and knowing she has the best intention for them I would give in.
Also there was a couple of years when they were young I would try to force them to go outside and play, but they would quickly become bored and come back in the house. This was so frustrating at the time and then I realized that there were no other kids playing outside either. When I was growing up in the 80s and early 90s, I practically lived outside with my friends.
My boys are significantly more dependent on us, much less capable and their development seems stunted or slowed, which I am sure is partly due to the pandemic, but also due to the sheltering that has become normalized in our culture. Allowing this to happen is one of my biggest regrets as a father, which all things considered I guess isn’t that bad while keeping things in perspective.
I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that the abundance of information has a side effect of over protectiveness. This makes some sense as it would be evolutionarily beneficial to protect against potential threats, however media is tricking our brains to believe that these threats are both abundant and persistent.
Children need unsupervised freedom as part of their development, it allows them to learn how to navigate the world in a healthy regulated way, and how to deal with challenges, like problem solving or social interaction. The perception that the world is a dangerous place that children need constant protection from is flawed. If that were true, we would have never have survived as a species.

Just search “brittany patterson georgia” and you will find this has gone viral and there is tons of outrage over this.
This is a pretty decent comparison. Not everyone can have ASD because then it can’t be classified as a disorder. There is a threshold for being diagnosed just as with vision impairment. Those who are diagnosed are on a spectrum from least debilitating to most.
