  • I feel like we ended up in the same kind of time line I used to create in SimCity 2000 when I spawned like 8 disasters at once, just to see what would happen.

To whoever is running this simulation, maybe take a break?

  • To be fair, I'll use the more convenient shortcuts (cut/copy/paste, select all, save) that are genuinely easier to do with one hand. But Alt+F4? It either requires two hands or else your hand needs to qualify for Cirque de Soleil to hit it properly. Some of the "standard" keybinds are often more trouble than moving the pointer.

  • It's still the result of robbing the working class, and concentrated wealth like that is bad for everyone (even the billionaires).

  • I don't think it's a bad thing, and I wouldn't call it a "rite of passage."

It seems like our culture has historically put a lot of emphasis on relationships. For example, one of my older friends (Gen X) used to be treated like he was broken or pitiful because he was single into his thirties. There has been a cultural shift toward the acceptability of singleness, which is much healthier in my opinion.

And on an anecdotal level, I think people are smart to wait until they're older. I made a lot of regrettable mistakes in my younger relationships that I would not have made had I waited a bit. Not saying that nobody should have relationships when they're young, but no one should be pressured into it.

  • My wife and I both have Android phones, and in Ente, all new photos are automatically added to a "Camera" album. So we share those with each other, and that gives us access to everything we need. Hopefully they eventually do partner sharing (it's possible with E2EE, I'm guessing it just wasn't super high on the priority list).

  • I switched to Ente a little while ago. It has E2EE as well as facial recognition (which is done locally on a device). In my initial usage, it does seem to match faces decently, but I haven't tried it for other stuff yet. Might be worth a look.

  • We should consider buying and nationalizing starlink. It's apparently critical for national defense and security, so it would make perfect sense to nationalize it.

  • Yep, easiest way to solve the housing crisis is a scaling tax on property ownership and rent. The first property you own is taxed relatively low, with it scaling exponentially as you add more properties.

  • Honey can change consistency, depending on how it is packaged and stored. In addition, you have to consider the cost and risk of storing it. But if you think the bees are going to die off, it could be a lucrative investment.
