  • So, basically, you become the controller? I'm curious to see how this hashes out, but so far, this looks like Microsoft Kinect with a subscription service. That combination... doesn't sound great, to be perfectly honest.

  • Dear lord, it even alters the URL. That is so wildly unnecessary.

  • Probably because it's another browser based on Chromium.

  • Besides the reasons others mentioned, it's also popular as an OS for gaming handhelds, like the Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion Go, ASUS Ally X and what have you.

  • Wait, what? Really?

  • Job

    Jump
  • How's morale looking so far, chief?

  • What do you mean "unrelated to NVIDIA drivers"? It's literally the first sentence of OP's post (emphasis mine):

Look long story short, what i expected to be a short install ended up being a 5 hour manhunt for an issue that resulted in needing a closed source instead of open source nvidia driver.

  • I only hope that people who still think that Nvidia drivers on Linux are an old issue that's been solved ages ago, see this post and this comment. It got slightly better, but the problem never went away. Yet, anyway.

  • Well, yes? According to Merriam-Webster:

1: exclusive ownership through legal privilege, command of supply, or concerted action

2: exclusive possession or control <*no country has a monopoly on morality or truth—Helen M. Lynd*>

    3: a commodity controlled by one party <*had a monopoly on flint from their quarries—Barbara A. Leitch*>

4: one that has a monopoly < The government passed laws intended to break up monopolies.:>

I'm not arguing that Steam doesn't have overwhelming market power, it most certainly does. But key words here are "exclusive" and "one party" and Steam does not control the PC market exclusively, nor are they the only party on the market.

  • 72% of devs have no clue what the word monopoly means. That would mean that Steam is the only store selling PC games on the market, but that's not the case. Hell, the article itself mentions several:

However, it also noted that developers have started utilising other platforms including the Epic Game Store and the Xbox PC Games store.

Almost half of those surveyed (48%) have distributed a title to both stores, while 10% have used GOG and 8% have used Itch.io.

So, a monopoly? Most definitely not. A market leader or holder of a vast majority? Yes.

  • Thank goodness for the emojis in the title, so we know how we should feel when reading this!

  • Sincerely doubt it. Humanity is divided across all kinds of topics.

  • Once they press the letter T, the letter H stops working.

  • Metroid Dread. Super satisfying final boss fight, the E.M.M.I. bots encountered throughout the game were true to the game's namesake and 360° aiming introduced in Metroid: Samus Returns still works great. Out of all Metroid games I've played (Other M didn't happen, fight me) this was by far the most intense one.

  • Ideally, to a Linux phone. If not, a regular dumb phone. I'm staying with Android until September 2026 at the latest, so I have time to figure it out.

  • Forget it. Privacy-wise, Android is a sinking ship, they can do whatever. I'm out.

  • The real question should be: Why is it called side-loading on phones? Because whether phone owners use the App Store/Google Play or a third party store, all they're doing is installing something. Which, to answer your question, is what you do on PCs. The term "side-loading" is probably something some nutsack in marketing thought up.

I'm cheating a little bit, because this song is tied to the second episode of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's a standalone story, by the way, so if you want context, you don't have to watch the whole show, just that episode. The episode's title is Runaway Evidence - Testation, for those curious.

But anyway, slight spoilers for that episode: it's about a man with medical issues that could easily be solved, but his parents won't let him take the medical procedure that would alleviate those problems due to their religious beliefs, so he lives life in anguish. If you just listen to the chorus, it might seem like a beautiful, feel-good song, but it's so, so far from that. Just... read the lyrics.
