I've never used Fossify SMS, so I can't really comment on it, but I've been using QKSMS as my default messenger for a few years now and I quite like it. The feature that keeps me on QKSMS is exporting and importing text messages. It's a godsend when you're changing phones.

Try to understand, not everyone likes windows. They require quite a bit of maintenance, are usually insecure and speaking personally, some setups just don't look good. It's why some people opt for skylights instead.
It's not chat apps that are making things worse, it's the various companies and organizations using these apps for support channels instead of easily searchable software like forums.
