Rabies seriously freaks me out, but those baby raccoons are so cute! I love reading about your experiences volunteering. It sounds like you’re really enjoying it. I haven’t been keeping up with posts lately, so maybe I missed it, but did your free squirrels ever settle down? 😂
These are all great, but I especially love this one. ❤️
As a side note, my lemmy instance is shutting down at the end of the month, so I have to find a new home. I’m not too worried about that, but I’m not sure what will happen to my posts.
Really cool. It sounds like there is a large variety of animals there. Owl pellets are very interesting. My daughter’s class did an activity with them when she was younger. They are almost like lint balls + mouse/vole bones. That mama opossum got a better Mother’s Day dinner than I did, lol. Also, free squirrels?! ❤️
I love to hear about land being transformed back to nature/re-wilded. There is a ex-golf course near me that this has been done to. I don’t know where its funding comes from, but hopefully the non-profit in charge will be able to continue their work. It makes such a difference to have a bit of nature in urban areas.
Great to hear about the owl population rebounding as well! And the reduced usage of rat poison.
This one looks much more judgy than the Northern one. It kind of looks like a cross between the juvenile Northern Saw Whet and the grown up one. Like the edgy teenage version.
I guess that makes sense. Well, maybe send some government scientists to find the feathers to test them? Probably like a needle in a haystack. I just would really like to know what caused the coloration.
Thanks for posting this update. I’m glad to see it’s returning to normal coloration. Maybe someone will find some of the molted feathers and be able to figure out what caused it.
