  • Matrix runs great out of the box but once you start joining large rooms your server has to synchronize with every instance, this is very taxing on the network and in my experience was essentially DDOS’ing me until I started a cache at the reverse proxy level and forced it to use my secondary PiHole.

  • Sheesh enough with the conspiracies, y’all are out of hand, and this is coming from a conservative leaning voter.

  • Welp, no longer using the work wifi.

This must be before my time, I must make my opinion known to all.

    Shit.

  • GrapheneOS is great and all but I refuse to willingly give google a single dollar for their hardware.

When GrapheneOS can be installed on any device is when I’ll gladly make that switch, and hopefully one day Apple iPhones can run other operating systems.

  • Huh, swear I’ve seen this somewhere.

  • Oh I am fully aware it just cosmetic, that’s why I added this line In my original comment:

but be warned if you take this route that the CSS can be re-enabled on the login screen using your browsers element inspect

hence why I also suggest just outright blacklisting all IP’s and only whitelisting the known few at the reverse proxy level.

  • I’ve been looking at VPNs, but it feels weird, to route everything through my home IP when I’m also trying to use a commercial VPN for privacy / to combat services fingerprinting me based on my IP.

My ASUS WRT router (running Merlin Firmware) forwards my Home WireGuard VPN server through one of my Proton VPN clients, I get all the added bonuses of being connected to my home network, utilizing my PiHole an such, while benefiting from appearing across the world.

I'm currently considering a reverse proxy setup with an authentication provider like authentik or authelia, but as far as I understand, that wouldn't work well with accessing services through an app on my mobile device (like for jellyfin music for example.)

This is correct, you cannot host an authentication service in front of Jellyfin’s proxy otherwise the Jellyfin Media Player will not connect to your server however, there is a Jellyfin SSO plugin for authentication which is what I use and I disabled the manual login form via CSS but be warned if you take this route that the CSS can be re-enabled on the login screen using your browsers element inspect, I wish you can disable it outright but it’s heavily baked into Jellyfin from what I’ve read.

I suggest setting up a IP-Blacklist for Jellyfin and only whitelisting the known IP’s.

  • Edit: 1 Day since it was DNS, lovely way to wake up in the morning.

  • My company has a detailing department that uses all the fancy paid CAD softwares like AdvancedSteel, TeklaStructures and so on, I am not apart of that department but I have to be able to view and interpret the 3D models they make, so I installed FreeCAD on my work desktop and the experience has been quite rough, essentially it does not do a great job at importing files exported from these fancy softwares, I have to fiddle and tinker with different settings every single time and it sucks.

Perhaps I’m using it wrong, feel free to call me out on it as CAD isn’t really apart of my expertise.

  • As another person had suggested, test with a live image first before installing it to an SSD/HDD, however Linux is very well maintained by the community and even if there aren’t native drivers from your hardwares manufacturer, for example Corsair Keyboard Drivers, there usually is Open Sourced alternatives for these things like CKB-Next.

I say this to everyone, once you get a grasp on BASH (Bourne Again Shell) and package managers & repositories (edit: and the filesystem structure) you’ll essentially be able to use any Linux distro, it just comes down to the nitty gritty of things.

  • Chances are they’re running into the issue with Element not displaying the arrows to switch between streams.

It is possible for everyone to screen sharing simultaneously however, the bug I mentioned above can make people believe it’s not possible.

Edit: Appears nobody made a bug report for it on GitHub, weird because this issue has occurred for months. #32559 for folks who are invested in this issue.
