  • We don't? Says who? You? Your bubble?

I live in the PNW and am surrounded by progressive people and hear "Zionist" used as a perjorative for fasciast frequently. Hell, I could easily go into a local coffee shop or bar and find a sticker that will have a "fuck zionists" message on it. Hell, one of my best friends is of Jewish heritage, and is the biggest critic of the Zionist movement I know, to the point where he even attends a moderately sized local synagogue that's also critical

So obviously there are US citizens in the PNW that use that language. But I'll be sure to tell them that according to some random internet gate keeper of the American English dialect says they don't talk like an American.

  • I know this isnt cannon, but it my personal head cannon. I've always thought of Han as somebody that "the force" is using as a pawn to maintain balance and as a result, has a shit ton of "luck".

I've always wanted to see media in the SW cannon to explore this kind of concept minor force users that either unknowingly use the force, or the force uses to maintain balance in the universe/galaxy.

  • Or it could be the economy tanking,a particularly bad winter storm or other natural disaster, another epidemic/pandemic, a complicit billionaire caught on a hot mic doing something dumb with the world watching, another inflamed and unstable right winger takes another run at Trump for some unhinged reason.

We're in such a precarious position right now that we're ready to burst at one of our many weak seams.

  • There's always a Franz Ferdinand.

  • I have to use a Win 11 machine for work.

If any of you are able to install software on the Win10/Win11 you're using, install Microsoft PowerToys (Run). It adds a Spotlight-like run/search dialog with a hotkey press that works as you would expect an indexed search to work. I never use the windows start menu anymore due to the enshittification of it.

  • If you actually read that page, you'd realize that "Requirements" is a misnomer, or at least misleading, page title for what's being described.

This article is more of a Troubleshooting page and how to resolve for your specific configuration.

There is not an Ubuntu official support requirement for Proton.

With SteamOS being Arch based, and Valve being a significant Proton contributer, if there were a specific OS requirement, it'd be Arch or AUR capable distro. But that's obviously not the case.

  • And runs even better on Arch thanks to CachyOS.

  • The multiplication is implied and has been part of the standard mathematical notation for far longer than any of us have been alive.

  • You have to view this from outside your tech knowledge bubble.

I have friends that are "stuck on windows 10 because fuck windows 11". I urge them to give Linux a try via Live USB and they're hesitant to even do that.

The paid support path is there for people that want to try and escape and need the comfort of that safety net. They don't feel comfortable trying to figure out even where to search for information. And if they've gotten that far, having various instructions for different distros can make things confusing because they probably did a generic "my issue, linux" search or just did a "my issue" search and are seeing cryptic answers, including Mac and windows. If somebody needs that paid safety net, ZorinOS for an existing machine is great, System76/PopOS for something new.

If there is something that provides value (customer support or even the OS equivalent of a hat cosmetic) to the user, I have no concerns at all with that being sold. If that optional value could easily be done yourself with effort, those of us that know how to put in that effort ,are willing to put in the effort, or not afraid of the effort when unknown, will continue to do so. Those of us who don't match those criteria at least have an option.

  • Be forewarned, Bazzite has some install issues and can lock up or appear locked up during a painfully long install process. Also, VR support is meh on Bazzite and their immutable distro and managed packages make it more challenging to get non-managed solutions rolling.

As somebody running Bazzite and loving it on their HTPC, I am looking at switching to CachyOS using the Handheld (SteamOS) Display Environment or launching directly into Kodi.

  • Security flaw?

Sounds like a social media feature that somebody just discovered they could utilize to data scrape. Then they realized how much data was returned by the scraping.

Similar things could (maybe still?) be done with Facebook graph api and Facebook graph search back in 2011.

  • Surprisingly, plate tectonics is a relatively new field of study and wasn't accepted until 1965, and before that, there was a nebulous contiential drift theory proposed in the 1910s. And of course, curriculums and books lagged behind that.

That also means that Geologists have been reverse engineering plate tectonics since then and there are several diverging theories as to where things were at different geoglical eras after going back far enough.

  • I'm going to have to quote you next time you've got a terrible take.

  • Bosch makes a few descent models.

Things to skip on all brands.

External water & ice dispensers, doesnt matter the brand. You're cutting a fucking hole in the thermal envelope to put a faulty device that's experiencing mechanical stress on parts every time you open/close the door. It's not a matter of if it will fail, but when. Also, increased operational cost. Internal water dispensers and automatic ice makers are always the better option if you want those features.

Smart features. Why the fuck do you need smart features on a fridge? Even if it's using AI vision to scan for inventory... Just no, fucking no. That's more personal data on you to be bought, sold, data breached, and utilized to fuck you somehow.

Fridges that split the freezer and fridge on a vertically.

  • Aptera might be the closest think to "Open Source" we might get.

The owner and creator plans on providing all schematics, operational code, and components. Including QR codes etched on everything to easily be able to find the specific info for any given part.

It's been a while since I've done a deep dive into them, but maybe it's time to do so again.

  • Escuse me, but I'm aging at just the right rate. Not rapidly, not slowly, but exactly as the universe planned it as we hurtle through time and space on our planet size space ship.
