  • People keep saying that, but is that really true? Because I just don't see society having any sort of memory.

For fuck sake, the guy is a rapist, pedophile, liar of the highest order. No one cares. Sure, some people are moving away from US services/products, but 1. Not that many people are doing it and 2. Once a non pedophile, war-monger gets back in the presidency, some little bit of marketing and everyone will go back to buying US.

I just don't think anyone gives a shit. There is like 1 principled person for every 100000 people.

  • I see all your posts. And I understand that the government does not speak for yourself. I have compassion for your situation, of course. But, truly, your "I am sorry" really is useless. Please don't go thinking that your "I am sorry" message is enough. That you are doing something. That message is akin to doing nothing. Hopefully, you are doing more than that.

And also, dear Americans, whatever it is you are doing, you could be doing more.

  • I think you should write the e-mail, and show it to them. And I think you should also show it to your community. Leave it in their mailboxes.

And if that does not work: I think we should all start being a little bit more aggressive. Key their cars. Set it on fire. Make it known that not listening to the governed, to the community, is a bad move.

Bullying is something that we need to start doing more often. Make it known that going against the people is worse than going against corporations. This is a war, the people vs the corporations. Corporations are fighting dirty. We need to do it too.

    • Because using AI is absolutely not good for the environment? It is increasing climate change. We are at 1.5 C already, we are absolutely fucked. For example, see this: https://zacklabe.com/archive-2025/. And remember that the arctic is/has a positive feedback mechanism. Once the tipping point is hit, it is practically impossible to stop it. This should be enough reason to avoid using AI as much as possible.
    • AI increases inequality. AI is here to solve one thing: Wages. The AI bros want to increase income inequality, and all others forms of inequality, really, though they basically all derive from the buying power. By using AI, you are making it a point that you have no issues with that.

And also, look what the AI field is doing to the RAM/SSD shortage.

I had no idea that this instance was pro AI. What the fuck guys? I would never have thought that anarchists would be using AI. AI worsens the sense of community. It creates and feeds oppressive hierarchies.

  • I feel vindicated. A few months/years? ago, everyone was saying Mark Cuban was the exception to the rule "all billionaires suck". I always claimed otherwise, fuck Mark Cuban, he also sucks. And here we are, the guy is just as hated nowadays...

  • I think Elon Musk and alike should be abolished. They are ruining society. Seriously, it is that simple, these pieces of shit are probably humanity's enemy number #1.

  • I still do not understand how this guy is given so much power. Seriously, what the fuck? How does he keep winning? How does everyone keep bending the knee? How are there so few people telling him to go fuck himself? Is he scary in real life?

  • This is a really good question, and I suppose the answer is the same as to why Mastodon is not more popular.

I think it is a combination of several factors:

    1. Not many people know about it. Really, reddit is one of the most well known websites on the internet. Very few people know lemmy/mastodon.
    2. UI/UX issues. The more friction there is, the smaller the probability of someone using something. And Lemmy has TONS of friction. And the lemmy devs are not welcome to suggestions. Seriously, every suggestion that is made is probably answered with "I am against this". If the idea did not come from their heads, they are probably against it. This has been my experience with them, at least.
    3. Lack of content. On reddit, there is tons of content. On lemmy, not so much. And people are generally not very principled. They want to consume, and completely ignore the ethics/morality of whatever it is they are doing.

I think this is not necessarily bad though. Lemmy DOES need more content and more users. But I hope it never becomes the size of reddit. Because reddit fucking sucks. People are stupid as fuck there now. The amount of low effort and low information content on reddit is astonishing.

Hopefully, Lemmy gets the smart, principled, interesting people and reddit keeps the influencers and onlyfaners.

  • Find the name of the guy and make him a hero. Positive reinforcement!

  • It is bad. Something can be bad and cure people. You see, you are just committing logical fallacies.

Chemotherapy IS poison. It is cytotoxic. The goal is to kill the cancer before it kills the patient, but it is toxic.

A similar argument can be made for the use of bots, as was my showerthought.

  • Chemo is like poison and you hope it kills more cancer than normal cells, that is not always the case. Not a great example for your argument.

That is the whole point lol

  • Ya, probably. And they sure have more money to spend on it.

  • Chemotherapy is bad. A patient is dying from cancer. Patient receives chemotherapy and lives.

Chemotherapy is bad, more chemotherapy is good? What?

  • Showerthoughts @lemmy.world

Creating bots that show russian-like speech that are anti-US would be a good use of AI

  • I find tuta.com much better than proton. I always found proton unnecessarily expensive.

  • Wait, why does lemmy.ml block infosec.pub, lemmy.cafe and programming.dev? All these seem innocuous?

  • I would love to watch something like The Walking Dead, but more chill. More to do with building a community, and re-imagining society. Surviving the zombies would be a topic, of course, but without all the extra evilness of the remaining humans.

And episodes that don't force me to increase my TV's brightness to the max.

  • I am still at a loss of words over the fact that the US has a rapist pedophile as president and a good portion of the population is ok with that. A rapist pedophile that is doing the opposite of Robin Hood, stealing from the poor and giving it to his millionaires/billionaires "friends".

I just don't see how society can improve if humans are so fucking stupid and evil. This whole thing literally removed my faith in humanity. I was always a bit of a misanthrope but after this whole Trump and MAGA and Russia thing, my misanthropy is at an all time high.

Where to post a youtube doc about "russia's most wanted hackers"?

  • This is great news. However, I am still dumbfounded on how 42% voted for the other guy. He is literally a sexual assaulter and he was endorsed by Trump and Elon Musk! How is it that so many people still voted for him?

Mamdani could not have had a better campaign, yet, he had just ~8% more votes. If the other guy ran a just tiny bit better campain, things could have been very different.

I am trully happy that Mamdani won, but yet, I am left scared at the state of things. He should have had 70/80% of votes. After all that has been happening in the US for the last 9 months or so, there is only a 8% number of votes separating the two sides? Holly molly, that is scary.

  • This is also something that I deeply value. And even in today's world, in which anti-consumption should probably be a priority for pretty much everyone, I rarely find someone that values that.

And where is the hate for corporations? Everyone walking around as if they were a walking billboard, with branding in pretty much every item they own.. Yikes yikes yikes.
