  • I have a few friends in this situation.

    My wife and I sometimes say that we are happy that we are done with the going out dating night life scene.

    We both had fun times dating when we were younger and single, but we are older now and are happy to relax on our home on a Friday night.

    One of our single friends said they were tired of going out to date and stuff, and I don’t blame her. As you get into your late 30s, the appeal is kind of gone.

    I’m sure I don’t speak for everyone. But I just wanted to share my experience.

  • I did something similar to this before because I live in a different country from my home country and it’s not a problem if you host your own VPN in your own home, but if you use a commercial VPN service, the IP address may be flagged

  • For a while, I’ve also just wanted to use igpus since my gaming demands are not that extreme, but they were enough that older igpus couldn’t handle it. The steam deck was the first machine that could do it for me.

    Unless I want to start running ai models in my home, I’ll skip the gpu.

  • I kind of expect this to happen with Apple's rumored $600 macbook. Since they just updated ipadOS to run like a locked down version of macOS. I bet they will offer this cheap mac with the same locked down OS since it will have a "phone" processor in it.

    They will say this was a compromise needed, but the majority of people will not care. After a few years, the macs that are open will get more and more expensive.

    I'm guessing Windows will slowly start to move in thie direction, but I think they will try to push their remote computers thing to accomplish this.

    I'm not sure about bootloaders being locked, I am guessing there will always be something that is unlocked and able to run linux though. It is needed for servers and stuff like that. In the worst case, someone will likely sell arm or risc-v powered boards that can be used to run linux.

    I wonder if it can connect to my laptops webcam and microhpone. I also wonder if there would be a delay in the video and audio streams.

  • I absolutely hate this stuff. My family doesn't live in the same house, but it doesn't mean we are not a family. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law just message us for the passwords when they want to stream something. None of us pay for youtube premium and it looks like I won't be.

  • I don’t know and I’m not sure he’s ready to admit he was wrong, so I’m not bringing it up. Our political debates are typically heated, so I’m enjoying the peace.

    But, he works in sales with manufacturers and I think he saw how the tariffs are going to mess things up.

    Then the Epstein thing compounded that, I think.

  • That’s unlikely to happen here. We have a universal qr-code system. And when you can into any banking app, it will display the vendors name.

    The payment processors, will distribute placards that have the qr-code and the vendors name, so it’s pretty easy to tell.

    Also, if it’s not a qr-code from a payment processor and it’s one, i could generate? Then the checkout screen is different.

  • I forget exactly, but he never believed anything negative about Trump was true. He just assumed the media was lying. In his mind Trump could do no wrong.

  • Yeah, I agree that it could be improved upon, but it is easier than pairing Bluetooth since I can just plug in. Plus having the navigation on the car screen is easier to see than a phone mounted to the dash.

  • Where I live, we do not have tap to pay, we just scan qr-codes. But I guess the vendor would need to enable that. But, if i have a physical card, that’s good enough for me.

  • Yeah! CarPlay has been amazing to use for navigation. I wouldn’t consider a car that didn’t have something like this.

    With that being said, I could be against getting a Linux phone and just leaving an old Android or iPhone in the car for CarPlay use.

  • I had this experience with my l14 thinkpad and Fedora.

    I was shocked that even the fingerprint reader worked… well like half the time, but I don’t like using it anyway.
