  • I'm gonna play Super Mario Sunshine one of these days, I swear.

  • I am told that in the movie Dances with Wolves, all the language consultants were women, and as a result all the characters speak with a noticable "women's accent" that is very noticablevto older Lakota viewers.

  • Maybe not the top five, but five top-tier pieces I can name right now:

    • Milton Horn's sculpture Chicago Rising from the Lake
    • The Carbon & Carbide Building
    • Philip K. Dick's novella Galactic Pot-Healer
    • Longfellow's poem "The Village Blacksmith"
    • The Magnetic Fields' song "If You Don't Cry"

  • You deleted your other post because you didn't like the critical comments, and you're still crying about censorship?

  • Same way where I grew up in South Dakota, except each school only taught one language.

  • Because ignoring Nazis as they spread their hate has always worked out great historically, hasn't it?

  • When did FF7 get good? A lot of people love it but the first hour made me put it down and never look back.

  • Season 2 of Other Space

  • To quote Wally Pleasant:

🎵I walked into a store has a sign said "No shirt no shoes no service"I was wearing a shirt and shoes, but still I was nervousEveryone got silent when I walked into the roomThey were all staring at my fruit... of the loomPants! Who the hell needs 'em?

  • Request additional trash bins from your municipality. Save one for regular refuse, use all the rest each week to fill with things you're getting rid of.

  • Space Westerns, more Space Westerns pls

  • I'd settle for G-Maps just showing how long a drive takes if you drive the speed limit. Last time I took a long drive the estimate assumed I'd be doing more than ten over the whole way.

  • We're either there or close, but just like last time you asked this, nobody's going to do this in secret. They'd be bragging their asses off.

  • It's right now. Indies everywhere, and we've successfully gotten past the worst of the always-online bullshit and PTW that plagued the early part of the millennium. More than half of my "all time favorite" games are still in active production today (sometimes continued by fans), and I'm not a young guy.

  • I'm a big Neal Stephenson fan, but the Baroque Cycle was a friggen' case study in his worst failing at the time: Unable to to tye all the narrative threads into a neat ending, he just. kept. writing. book after book until he finally petered out.

  • If I'm shopping, as opposed to just buying, it's because I don't already have a brand I prefer. Or because I'm thrifting. There a few brands I avoid for quality or ethics reasons, but mostly I'll take whatever fits best at a reasonable price.

  • Perfect Jeans are great for standing and walking, but not so good for biking. But since my commute is twenty minutes and my shift is nine hours, they're still my go-tos.

  • I don't really have a lot of experience with it.

When I was in college I knew a lot of students who came from China and weren't planning to return after graduation, and I knew a lot of students who were children of professionals who had done the same a generation ago.

But since leaving college I have not really interacted with first or second generation Chinese immigrants.

  • No.

And, by-the-by, "other people are doing it" is never sound ethical reasoning.

1986 saw the release of both the Henson / Bowie film Labyrinth and the Ravensberger board game Labyrinth. What was going on in the zeitgeist that created these two seemingly unrelated classics?
