22·8 hours ago[Donald Trump] announced that his administration would no longer be enforcing the law for U.S. shell companies—and that no one would need to worry about prosecution for breaking the law. A few months later, Trump’s Treasury Department announced that it was destroying all of the filings the registry had compiled thus far, torching the database entirely.
This sounds like a cover-up to me.

politics @lemmy.world•Raising taxes on the superrich is popular with voters. So why is it so hard to get done?
3·22 hours agoSome things that would help:
- A wealth tax. Their wealth will continue to grow exponentially, but at least a portion of it could be harvested to reduce the deficit.
- Taxing capital gains the same as ordinary income. Making money from investments requires no effort, and it blows my mind that wage income is taxed more heavily.

politics @lemmy.world•Senate passes bill to lower housing costs and restrict Wall Street from buying homes
6·1 day agoThis will not increase the housing supply. In fact, it should theoretically decrease construction of housing, by reducing the demand for it. But it would be much harder for Congress to address the root of the problem, and big companies make an effective scapegoat.

World News@lemmy.world•JD Vance 'humiliated' by Iranian negotiators in stunning spectacle: 'Never looked weaker'English
111·1 day ago“In diplomacy, the side with leverage doesn’t wait in the room,” Taha wrote. “You claim to be leading and winning, yet you arrived first. First mistake.”
Taha also flagged a telling moment from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghci, who Taha claimed “entered last and refused to shake hands,” a claim supported by reporting from the Iranian news outlet Tasnim News Agency.
… That’s it? The headline seems hyperbolic.
I dislike this cartoon because of the way that the server is pointing angrily at the tip box. In reality, the servers are also victims of tipping culture. They deserve consistent and fair wages.

Ah yes, George W Bush’s fan base: Karl Rove.
