  • I don't believe it is worth it. You're much better off keeping your data off the Internet in the first place.

The problem is, if you employ a service like that:

    • It is a cost that returns every month.
    • What happens with your data? You have to give your data to the company so they know what to remove. Can you imagine what happens if they are hacked? Would they even tell their customers? Or just keep quite? They have everything you don't want the Internet to know in one location, not only for you, but a lot of users. It's a target, for sure.

For me, it's not worth it. I keep minimal info out in public. I don't have social media. If I Google myself, I find nothing. So why would I pay for a service that I don't need?

Can you even see what data a service like that removes? And how often?

Now, if you know your data is on the Internet and it's being used you may consider it. But it's probably to late already. The people using your data already have it, and may sell it to their scamming buddies too. There's not much a company can do about that.

  • Right. Consoles can't be sold at a loss and stores never sell things at a loss at a sale because they make it back with other products that are sold at the same time....

It is very possible that if not enough people buy the subscription they will be at a loss.

However, I understand it from a business standpoint.

Cars are usually good quality now. They will probably last 15 years or more. Which means manufacturers are their own competition now. Not to mention that China is making some pretty cheap and impressive cars too.

So how does a brand keep existing? Extracting more value out of the customers they have. And hope that this minor thing isn't enough to make them buy a different car. Or hope other brands do the same thing so it doesn't matter.

I think on expensive brand cars, the buyers usually can afford a subscription. Odds are they also have a strong preference for a brand so they are not very likely to switch.

So for a Mercedes, Audi, Bentley, BMW etc I understand why they think they can get away with it.

I just hate it with a passion and will never ever go with it unless I literally don't have a choice. My car, I paid for it. Want me to pay extra to build an extra option? Fine, but it is a one time fee of the cost of building that option on the car. If it does not require anything that is a returning cost to the seller, I am not paying a returning fee.

Vote with your wallet and the bullshit will eventually disappear.

  • Anyone want to bet that there are inventions that are great but would cost some people serious money and that's why we're not seeing them?

  • I know this guy, did judo for at least 20 years. Stopped doing that, but kept doing the bodyweight training every other day. Push ups etc.

He's now 70. I hope I can be as fit and strong as he is by that age. He still does his exercises every other day, and he still works in the garden etc.

So, what I do is even if I don't go to the gym anymore, I try to do bodyweight stuff every other day or so. Push ups, belly exercises, squats, pull ups on something. Yes, the gym is more intense, but if I can keep this up for the rest of my life the gains will be there.

I also try to be careful about what I eat, and I'm failing hard at that. I do walk a lot though, I have an active job and also a dog.

  • So they protect your data by preventing you from acces to it. Makes sense....Oh wait it makes absolutely no sense at all.

Sucks though. Are you going to buy a new license? Because the game is nice, but I would not want to give assholes like that more money.

  • I have a pretty good amount of tools. I think I've made every single one back by now. I've done multiple renovations, lots of repair work, build some furniture, did a lot of flooring and also did my front and back yard including fences with it.

I think if I hired a contractor to do what I did myself it would have been faster, but at least three times the cost. There are still some things I cannot do myself or am legally not allowed to work on, but the rest I will definitely do by myself.

  • Troll post. Not falling for it. Bye.

  • Last week I canceled HBO. They increased prices and if I did not want that, I'd have to watch ads. I'm not watching ads. And they did not provide enough value to increase the price. Vote with your wallet. I certainly do.

  • Screw it, play one. If you don't like that, don't bother with the rest. If you do like it, play the others and connect the dots. What is there to lose?

  • The problem obviously being that it is not the browser they want you too use, so they create "a problem".

  • My steam is set to always open the library. I only go to the store if I want to buy another game. My library is full of games I have not played yet, so there is really no point in adding to that list unless I'm playing something with friends on a LAN party or something.

  • Even worse. Recently I was watching a video in Dutch, and it decided to automatically translate the sound to English. AI generated. That was just...it sounded so fucked up.

And why does YouTube think it needs to do that? If I want that, I'll so it myself.

  • Well technically cars can go underwater. They just cannot get out because they stop working.

  • What do you mean lots of experience? She knows what she likes and know how to please a man too? Oh no! Stay as far away as possible and give me her number because I think that is just what I want!

  • Chatbots are crap. I had to talk to one with my ISP when I had issues. Within one minute I had to request it to connect me to a real person. The problem I was having was not a standard issue, so of course the bot did not understand at all... And I don't need a bot to give me all the standard solutions, I've already tried all of that before I even contact customer support.

  • Well, it's almost correct. It's just one letter off. Maybe if we invest millions more it will be right next time.

Or maybe it is just not accurate and never will be....I will not every fully trust AI. I'm sure there are use cases for it, I just don't have any.

  • Given that it's people who work for the government, expectations are already low, if no training is provided results will be even worse and last but not least, if the product is absolutely crap, why would you continue using it?

  • Proud of the little guy!

  • Made the mistake of buying a Xiaomi for my wife. Fuck that phone. Everything that comes stock on the phone contains ads. Some you can turn off, some you can't.

    Fuck Xiaomi.
