Embedded engineer and programming languages enthusiast. If you wrote some pretty code, I wanna see it.

  • They sell a lot of copies of the software for it not to work.

  • You're not wrong, but I think "rich" and "powerful" carry a hundred times the weight in that sentence as "men".

  • That's a political compass, and it's still missing several political axes.

  • If the cert is not unique to a person, it's not a viable way of verifying age. Anyone could use one issued to anyone else, and the whole thing is DOA.

So then we have to assume it is uniquely tied to a person. Then, it can be used by the verification service to track a person, building a profile of what websites they visit and when, even what they do there, depending on how the age verification is set up.

Advertisers don't really care about your name, just about your profile so they can target you with ads, so it gives them everything they want.

  • A state-issued cert used pervasively across all interactions on the internet and uniquely tied to a particular individual?

Some exec at Google just creamed his pants.

  • Not sure, but I can say I don't get it.

  • Hey, corn is nutritious.

  • Yeah.. well, you know.

  • This may be an unpopular opinion, insofar as any opinion professing a favorite brand of instant ramen can be unpopular, but while shin black probably has the best broth, albeit by a fairly narrow margin, I think Nissin Gold has the best noodles and is the best overall.

Yes yes, I know, "death to the heretic" and all that.

  • Depending on what I'm doing, sometimes rust will annoy me just as much. Often I'm doing something I know is definitely right, but I have to go through so much ceremony to get it to work in rust. The most commonly annoying example I can think of is trying to mutably borrow two distinct fields of a struct at the same time. You can't do it. It's the worst.

  • It's not a plane tiling problem; it's a circle packing problem. The optimal euclidean circle packing results in each cookie having six cookies around it, and so when they melt, hexagons.

  • Well if you make me actually explain it, I'm going to sound like an asshole; the joke is so obvious and low-level and the type of humor so uninspired that I figure they must be a little.. you know, dumb.

  • The recipe sounds good, and if I look through the visual artifacts, the result looks good too, but wow; that is a stupendously bad photograph.

  • The joke is that the people in the conversation are kinda dumb

  • Re veganism: if you used wine, it's probably not vegan anyway, as most (especially white) wines use animal products in the fining process. Vegan wine from the US is often specially marked with something about fining or filtering, but it's hard to tell in general.

  • Oh hey, so it does.

  • What's with the tail still on the shrimp?

  • Baltic bitch

I know this is "birch", but it still made me laugh.
