  • We all know who was responsible. This was a blatant attack by maga, plain and simple. There will be no real investigation from the government or police, and they want us to know that.

If you’re looking for something to do to feel less powerless, gear up to stay safe. Get cameras, fire extinguishers, defense materials, anything helps. The more of us that are prepared the safer we all are.

  • It’s tricky. Currently we are in a bubble, but we’re also on track for massive inflation so shorting could still lose even if number goes up. I would sell everything and buy land or REITs.

  • Ought

  • I don’t see why either side is trying to disown the dude. He turned himself in. That’s so brave, and the right thing to do regardless of affiliation.

  • Paywall = clickbait. If they want your money they can say anything just to get you to click.

  • Which of these should be contested and which should be validated?

Identities don’t really need to be either validated or contested, especially if the person didn’t ask for it. Validation will likely win you more friends, though.

Obv use their preferred names and pronouns to be respectful, as with any person. But beyond that, there’s really no need to get involved in their identity at all. It’s a deeply personal thing and it’s unlikely they’ll change it for anyone other than themselves.

  • Dad Jokes @lemmy.world

Did you hear about the girl born in the post office?

  • I’ve listened to Ruth Porat speak before and nothing about this article matches that. It feels fake or taken wildly out of context. As a general rule she doesn’t say much that isn’t already publicly released, and this doesn’t match any of the statements google’s released recently.

For the uninitiated, she’s the kind of person who would say “you bring up a great point” before then explaining why you’re wrong. So it feels disingenuous to not include the full sentence in the quote, and then to also not link to the source video is sus.

Edit: Thanks commenter🫡 They did link the source, at least, but yeah my other points.

  • I'm not necessarily autistic, but when I tell people I'm neurodivergent, they're like "yup" 😓

  • Related PSA: grok is the top rated AI app in the play store, and we can fix that

  • I'm getting tired of this back and forth. This bickering is childish and our time would be better spent drumming up positive interest for ranked choice voting.

  • How many people? What percentage of users?

  • tl;dw: AMAB and AFAB can be useful in certain contexts, but it's:

    1. Brought up too often in contexts it doesn't matter. ASAB should be offered up consensually by the person, never volunteered on their behalf.
    2. Often used as shorthand for other things that would be better to talk about directly. For example, a GP needs to know if they have a prostate, a support group wants people that experienced misogyny as a child, a partner asking if they bottom, etc.

  • You know, a non-zero number of conservatives don't even know what Biden looks like. We could probably get them to blindly distribute that picture amongst themselves by telling them it's Biden.

  • I think that's very evocative phrasing for a less-than-productive message. It sounds like saying "we're doomed anyway", which is what the fascists want us to say.

Privacy matters. I've worked at tech companies and many of them (Amazon excluded) honor their privacy policies. Especially companies with a presence in the EU or in based in California

To those reading, feeling like there is no good in the world is a serious sign of depression. If you're looking for a sign to talk to a professional, consider this it

  • The NYT is trying to get access to all chat logs including private ones and ones that the user requested be deleted? Yeah, no that's really bad, please let's not celebrate that.

That private data could include things that would out trans people, immigrants, and other marginalized groups to a government that is actively building concentration camps.

I don't care about this drama over which billionaire copied another billionaire's stuff. This request is unacceptable and needs to be stopped. Can we counter sue the NYT for breach of private data?

  • In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower signed the Communist Control Act into law. In theory, this outlawed the Communist Party of the United States and banned communists from serving in certain roles.

    WTF

[It passed because] many opposed communism because of its explicitly declared and historically demonstrable goal to undermine liberal democracy. In the words of Ernest van den Haag, there was "no place in democracy for those who want to abolish [it] even with a peaceful vote".

    • Wikipedia

The irony of using it here would be palpable

  • Thank you for your service brave memer

  • I know the author will probably never read this, but in the off chance they or someone else working on open source accessibility reads it:

Thank you. So much ❤️ Your hard work and dedication keeps me going when times get rough.

And thanks for the rant. Nobody should have to suffer in silence, and that includes you. So any time you want to rant at us leeches about working in open source, please don't hesitate to put us in our place.

I hope that we find a way to make the internet a more positive and celebratory place for people like you who do hard work the rest of us don't have the time or energy for.
