⚠️ I follow and comment on NSFW stuff.

I'm a 36m British writer, designer, gaymer, lefty snowflake, and AuDHDer. I never shut up about Ace Attorney, and I collect Tamagotchis. Trying to learn Japanese, currently N4-ish. Ask for my Slowly ID!

  • Did anything ever come of Apple's weird Instant Apps clone, where you had to scan a QR code in a Starbucks or whatever? 🤔

  • Not remotely shocking.

They also dropped their plans for new anti ultra-processed food guidance, because Coca Cola and Nestlé told them to. 😬

“Please do also let us know as soon as possible when you have clarified next steps for removing the reference to ‘minimally processed’ from the promotions guidance – as mentioned on the call, this is a particularly contentious issue for our members.”

It's corruption all the way down.

  • I've been thinking a lot about webrings lately. Now that Google is basically cutting off traffic from the indie web.

I feel like everyone's kinda having the same idea at the same time, which gives me some hope, but... it's difficult enough to find a ring to join, that I think most people will give up?

I don't know what I think the solution is. Centralising it and having a big, user-friendly "webring platform" is just inviting more enshittification. But the handful of webring directories I've found are really lacking.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Or, does anyone want to team up and make, like, a Gaymers Webring? (That's pretty much what I'm looking for.)

ETA: I've built one. DM me if you're interested!

  • This is probably a bit "I'm 14 and this is deep", but I was thinking the other day about how "pull down to refresh" is weirdly similar to pulling a slot machine handle. 😬

I don't think that was ever part of its design (didn't the Tweetie dev invent it?), but still.

  • Franziska von Karma. I was going to say Miles Edgeworth, but... let's face it, there are plenty of foolish fools in need of a whipping right now. 😌

(I know she's really a "game character", but she was in the anime, so she still counts. 🧑‍⚖️)

  • Why would anyone opt in 😭

Is this just so they can wait a few months and say, "Not enough people were discovering this Great Feature, so we're enabling it by default"?

I've already been getting the itch to leave Samsung and try something different. I'm keeping my eye on the upcoming Nothing Phone 3, if it's genuinely a "flagship" for £800 I might jump ship.

  • To be fair they also said:

Talking on the phone, got an interviewWith the Rolling Stone, they're saying,"Now you're rich and now you're famousFake-ass girls all know your name and'Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous'Your first hit, aren't you ashamed?"Of the life, of the life, of the life we're living

So at least they're self aware 😅

  • That’s a good point. Although Abigail Thorn (Philosophy Tube) kinda turned it on its head, apologies in advance for probably fucking up my explanation. 😅

If (e.g.) a cis woman has dark arm hair, peach fuzz, a "strong jaw", etc, and is really bothered by it because it makes her feel less feminine or "man ish"... isn't she basically experiencing gender dysphoria? And if she gets laser hair removal or whatever, isn't that actually a type of "gender-affirming care"?

It made me wonder if that's somehow the key to making people feel more empathetic, idk.

  • Drink once if they ban face coverings because of this.

Drink twice if they somehow link it to hijabs and burqas in a skewed bid to "win back Reform voters".

Down your drink if they fuck up and do it around the time of the next pandemic.

  • TIL Outlook has ads. I use AdBlock and I had no idea 😅

  • Yeah, this seems to be the latest 'format'. I've been seeing a lot of "Thousands of Britons ordered not to open their windows on Monday"

  • This is one thing that makes me think mine is AuDHD, not just ADHD (waiting for an autism assessment now).

I occasionally pin important tabs, or use Tab Groups, but mostly I obsessively sort everything into Collections and start fresh every time. I can't stand digital clutter. Messy Desktops drive me mad, too.

And yet my IRL world is disorganisation and chaos. 😬

  • I had a look to see if I could find the "opposite" of this poll, and found this from 2021:

Three in four Americans (75%) say they would be somewhat or very comfortable learning a coworker is transgender. Nearly seven in ten Americans (69%) say they would be somewhat or very comfortable having a close friend tell them they are transgender. This percentage has gone up, from 63% in 2019. In addition, nearly seven in ten Americans (68%) say they would be somewhat or very comfortable learning someone in their church or faith community is transgender, and nearly two-thirds of Americans (65%) report that they would feel somewhat or very comfortable learning that a local elementary school teacher is transgender, up from 56% in 2019.

    Via PRRI: https://www.prri.org/press-release/survey-americans-increasingly-support-transgender-rights

It's good to see the numbers are maybe not as bad as LGBTQ+ people think they are, although as a gay guy with trans friends, I can totally understand feeling that way. (I'm not American, mind you.)

I do wonder whether support may have dropped in the last couple of years – the bathrooms/"women's sports" culture war feels newer than 2021 to me. 🤔

  • There'll almost certainly be new/expanded and altered dialogue.

I'm intrigued to see whether they'll try to rework any of the more 'problematic' stuff, now that Katsura Hashino (P3–P5 director) has left. Or go for a truer-to-the-Japanese-version Teddy this time.

  • I hope teachers come up with crazy workarounds, like Miss Honey's classroom in Matilda

  • Busuu is like what Duolingo used to be, but with native audio/video clips, actual grammar lessons, and the chance to write/speak sentences and have them graded by native speakers (other app users).

It's free with ads, but the paid tier is also cheaper than Duolingo. 👍

  • I don't know if it can (or should) be done without the negative aspects. The internet is really dangerous.

Children can be introduced to baking in a playful way, but still need to be taught how to do it safely. You wouldn't try to do it without mentioning that the oven is hot, or that they shouldn't play with knives.
