  • One thing that is easy to overlook - use a high quality USB cable to connect the phone to your PC for web installation of the OS. There are many garbage-quality cables floating around out there that may charge a small accessory but could be lacking in the data transfer department.

  • GrapheneOS is about as close as you will get.

    Have burners if you want, but realize that with vanilla Android or Apple iOS on those devices, they will suck up a lot of data about surrounding devices, Bluetooth devices, and wifi networks. This can be probabalistically matched to your real identity even if you use VPNs and you aren't using any known accounts on the burners. As for GPS data, that's even worse.

    Its probably best to have at least one "normie" phone you do boring stuff on, a Graphene enabled phone for sensitive-but-not-illegal daily driving, and anything spicier than that should be a burner in a Faraday bag, which you cycle and destroy/discard regularly.

  • Can confirm, I recently maxed out the RAM on my decade-old rig at 32GB. At least the used DDR3 RAM was cheap. With motherboards that old you are limited to processors like Intel Haswell with 4 cores, pretty anemic by today's standards.

    It works just fine for me running Linux and doing minimal gaming. 90% of my gaming these days is on the SteamDeck anyway.

    I thought as I got older I would have more money to buy current gen PC parts and build basically whatever I wanted. Turns out priorities just shifted and things got even more expensive.

    In the cave exploration parts you can basically play it like a full-on combat simulator.

    The ChargePoint chargers at a Sam's Club near me have been inoperable for about 4 months and when I reported it, ChargePoint said the "owners of the stations declined to repair them".

    So I assume that means they are pending rollout of their own charging. Really inconvenient for now though.

  • Yeah, OP, based on my experience with the Deck, for a vast majority of games you can just go to the ingame pause screen, press power button to "sleep" the Deck, and then resuming later has no impact.

    There are a few games that maybe had audio issues or something after resume but nothing major if your main concern was simply avoiding losing progress.

    It is 100% legal in the US to build your own gun for personal use, and has been for the entire existence of the country.

    Just because it can now be done with custom plastic parts instead of wooden or hardware store parts, changes nothing.

    Plus there is no way to validate when 3D printed guns were created, because they aren't required to be serialized unless they are made by a dealer for resale. So they'd have to ban ALL pre-existing 3D printed guns of any kind, regardless of manufacture date, since you're not going to be able to distinguish preban guns.

    Putting spyware into every 3D printer or slicer software, because of what people "might do", is also ridiculous and scummy.

    TL; DR- This DA needs to fuck off and just use normal constitutional methods to enforce laws.

    God forbid people want the compute they are paying for to actually do what they want, and not work at cross purposes for the company and its various data sales clients.

  • I was thinking about this, and to defray the cost and make EVs more plausible in suburban US areas, they could make one simple modification.

    Instead of the current model where only certain businesses are electing to spend $10-20k per level 2 charger, they should just aim to build almost all new businesses (this would include hotels, apartments, etc.) with basic-bitch 120v 15A outdoor-rated wall outlets in front of every parking spot. The outlets could be on a post, on a wall, built into the concrete curb, whatever is up to code and can be done cheaply.

    The cost per spot would be relatively low compared to level 2 or DC fast charging and then people could charge using their own portable level 1 charger and the provided outlet. Level 1 charging at virtually any parking lot, plus being able to overnight charge where you live, covers almost all use cases.
