I've been learning languages for the past 10 years or so, including English, the language I'm writing this message in, which is not my native language.
I certainly don't know what the "best" way is, but what I do is get a lot of input, review vocabulary with Anki (spaced repetition software), and slowly make my way through the pile of grammar.
I have to start with the first entry so I can see how the franchise evolved over time, for example, I recently started playing the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games, I have played the first three games from each franchise and that has helped me to understand the good, the bad, and the ugly from each entry.
Me and my girlfriend started watching it last week, we are already on season 2, it's pretty good, I can't believe it took me this long to start watching it.
