Anyone else exhausted trying to get people around them to understand how capitalism is the root of all their fears and problems?
Like damn… I feel like I’m lucky to change the mind of 1 out of every 100 I talk to. It’s just frustrating that so many people can’t connect to the bigger picture beyond all the culture war slop.
Revolutionary optimism always, but man I feel like I to apply ice directly to my brain
I mean it’s possible to that his perspective is just different on some of these things. Wolff isn’t necessarily interested in discussing the intricacies of MMT, more just introducing the concept to wide audience in an engaging way.
If Wolff were speaking at a panel to other economist scholars, I think he would probably provide more than a 2 minute analysis on MMT.
I mean, I really think the guy an incredibly brilliant economist who’s goal is to reach as many people as possible with Marxist economic analysis which is a great thing
I’m not an economist… but I think Richard Wolff is pretty solid. If absolutely anything, he does a very good job bringing Marxian economics to a wider, western audience.
There aren’t very many highly educated American Marxist economists who have the kind of reach that he does and can explain very complex ideas in terms that people without economics degrees can understand.
I just think this comes off very unnecessarily hostile.
This is the kind of messaging that gets across to people in the hustle culture/grindset mentality. Believing that your only value comes from your income. Just pure evil
Well that’s also just anti-semitism too because it leads them to believe that Israel is some secret Jewish plot instead of it actually just being a capitalist proxy.
Yeah there are a lot of so called Western “Marxists” who still think these liberal parties can be steered left. It’s absolutely ridiculous.
What makes it especially difficult to bring people into ML thinking in the west is that there is very little media out there created by actually working class representation. So you sound like a crazy person talking about Lenin when all the breadtubers are either pushing people to the Dems or creating political nihilists
The progressive Dems are pretty good at aesthetics. There’s a lot of old clips of Bernie ripping Greenspan, criticizing the deposition of Allende and of course AOC being the working class Bronx girl.
I mean… it’s pretty obvious if you listen to what anti-Israel right wingers say. They are anti-Israel not because of colonialism, imperialism or genocide. They are anti-Israel because they believe in anti-Semitic conspiracy theories.
Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson have both parroted “Great Replacement” nonsense. All they are doing is inciting hatred against Jews.
Same. I’m living in the US and I’m utterly surrounded by reactionaries all the time. So I’m just going to keep speaking and maybe some of them who are open minded will be swayed. Idk man… I’m trying whatever I can
This is why education and specifically fostering proper critical thinking skills and empathy is so important. It’s so scary how easy it is for so many people to reject the humanity of others
Not surprising. No proper leftist feeds themselves to the Democratic Party’s woodchipper. Bernie, AOC, Mamdani, all of them are just the social wing of American fascism because they don’t have the guts to stand up to the DNC machinery.
I have my own disagreements with Jill Stein, but I trust a politician like her much more than anyone who puts that blue D next to their name.
The paradox of me wanting the dollar to collapse so the American Empire finally breaks, but at the same time realizing that such an event will be felt incredibly hard by workers all over the world.
There must come a time as a western leftist where you have to break down and grieve when everything you have ever been taught about your country and its role in the world turns out to be a lie. But there is also nothing more empowering than to make that realization
Even as someone who possesses just about every privileged trait that a person can have in society (besides wealth), its still so much more freeing to recognize material reality for what it is and allow yourself to just be human and vulnerable.
