  • We are absolutely dating Europe again lol. China knows. America is a bit preoccupied.

  • Starmer is annoyingly good at the international stuff

  • that's okay I'll chat with my MP about the OSA offline. I'll thank them for voting for it.

  • shrug.

  • Commenting on porn is not an age related activity. Selling porn is shg

  • The number of people shilling for pornographers who prey on kids on this site smh

  • When I was 14 a shopkeeper sold us single cigs for 50p shg. If you want to break the law there's a way and usually someone willing to make some money. Doesn't make smoking at 14 right.

Happy to have the convo with my kids and for part of that to be “don’t break the law”. Also expect them to break the law. Happy for that to be part of learning what is healthy from unhealthy.

  • I think pornography should only be seen by adults

  • While I get that sentiment its becoming clear to me that the corps are increasingly supplying data and inferencing models to governments.

Moving forward the business model for data collection is less about advertising and more about social 'guidance'. The extreme is Palantir supplying ICE with AI maps and they then knock on doors of immigrants.

But we can expect a lot more creative coercion moving forward. It will affect us all

  • I love this. €610 for the community developer edition though. And I don't really have time for another project. Will make some folks very happy though

  • Does anybody know what models Lumo uses?

  • I'm not looking for an argument. I just looked at the one I own and the same one (large screen with pen) that Kobo makes. None of this is by force. I'm not here to promote Remarkable. Let's kiss and move on x

  • I get all my stuff second hand anyway. But just checked and Kobo Elipsa 2E is £349 and Remarkable 2 is £389 so it's not that different really. Not that I'm paying that amount for either.

I guess it all depends on what you get out of it though. I use my Remarkable every day so am seriously considering a second hand Paper Pro Move 2 when they come through into the market. Spend your money where you spend your time and all that

  • I use mine as a PDF reader and for note taking. I also bounce long form articles to read as it’s easier on the eyes and less distracting.

I’m not that fussed about ebooks as I’d rather just get the book. It works for me.

It isn’t open source though and the software is extremely limited. I think as a design choice. YMMV

  • Buy European @feddit.uk

  • Maybe there could be a VPN service that doesn’t require age verification but doesn’t provide access to porn or social media?

There is probably a solution. But on balance I’d rather kids didn’t get access to porn and social media. And if that means age verification for VPN I’m comfortable with that. Unless somebody can come up with a better solution

  • The British will never ever ever accept ID cards.

  • You’re right. Parliament also has a bar where they serve alcohol.

They’re not banning VPNs. They’re attempting to limit use to adults.

  • Kids growing up being able to see porn on demand is also a horrible idea. Arguably a more horrible idea.

The onus is on us to provide a solution to that if we want to remove ID checks from websites that serve adult material. Which currently is porn but could be easily expanded to social media.
