For serious comments, my true audience is the unknown reader. For jokes, my audience is myself alone.

Lemmy dev suggestions: Remove all downvotes. User blocks should keep the blockee from seeing the blocker.

  • A sequential mate search seems too inefficient for the likes of her.

  • If I had to say which group of people were killing the planet, I'd say it's people who don't think about things at all and just do whatever they're told. You know, people with authoritarian personalities.

  • So, the first time I read this, I interpreted it as these guys spent their whole lives saying they should hang out, but never got around to it.

But then, I was like, "Hey, if their graves are next to each other, they're totally hanging out in the last panel."

And I realized that you put people's names on their tombstones. So, is the comic really just two guys with really weird names who are repeatedly greeting each other by saying each other's names at various times in their lives? If their graves are next to each other, maybe they even got married or something.

  • You know who definitely have $1M?

    The leaders of MS-13.

  • I have no reason to talk about uncontested elections, as they're completely unrelated to the topic here. I have no idea why you'd bring them up.

  • The meme we are discussing concerns the effect of a spoiler candidate, which is something that you can't have with fewer than three candidates.

  • Meanwhile, childhood was actually quite a recent invention. Previously, it was sort of like early adulthood.

  • I am sure that they are speaking of reproductive rights that apply exclusively to men.

The biggest one that I can think of that varies by region are paternal rights. Things like which parent gets custody, child support. I guess you could say that paternal rights in that case simply vary inversely to maternal rights.

I think I recall from the past that in some states, a sperm donor, like for a sperm bank, may be subject to more liability for their children than in other states.

Medically, there's not only vasectomy, but also drugs that cause erections like Viagra, as well as other impotence treatments. I have no idea if any of those vary by state. Prostate treatment would also count. Any treatment that might increase or decrease viable sperm count.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were differences between states about how penile implants or even piercings are treated.

  • It always gets sloppier after a gag. Probably Barry just doesn't have any experience with being part of a gag, the poor guy.

  • The size and scope of an election doesn't really affect the fact that you must vote (and run) strategically for FPTP to pick the best candidate if the race has more than two people running and it's not a landslide.

  • Is nothing enough? What does he want me to give up next, my giant golden ballroom? But then, where will I hold my debutante balls? Not in the garden that I just paved over. That's where I have my fetes.

  • Actually, hearing about this, I'm now surprised that our military didn't stop the fishing boats first to siphon all of the gasoline out of their tanks before blowing them up and murdering their crew.

  • It was carrying drugs?

This type of drug has several street names, among them, black gold and Texas tea.

  • I am going to disagree with the other person and suggest that whoever made the meme was simply careless. This version of the meme template ruins the joke.

Plus, despite how much I may like the policies of a third party candidate, as long as we have FPTP voting in America, we have to vote strategically, every time, even in midterms. If you're voting strategically, then it doesn't matter whether it's midterms or not. You should only vote for any candidate if they either have a chance of winning, or if no other palatable choice has a chance of winning. And conversely, that's why third party candidates shouldn't be running in midterms, either, unless they're willing to drop out before the general election if they aren't polling well enough.

The point is.... Both the meme template and the content itself show a similar lack of attention to details. So that's why I think it's carelessness.

  • "ONLY SOMEWHAT SUCCESSFUL"???? How many people's lives did he ruin for his own shitty failure of an experiment? How much critical expertise was ripped away from the government, never to return?

I remember the last time I felt any respect for Elon Musk was when he spoke out about climate change. Here's a quote:

We're running the most dangerous experiment in history right now, which is to see how much carbon dioxide the atmosphere... can handle before there is an environmental catastrophe. -- Elon Musk

The government is like the Earth's climate. You don't make drastic experimental changes and hope for the best. People have been studying governments for literally millennia, and the climate for decades.

Trying a huge change to the government without knowing ahead of time that it has a large chance of success (based on actual research), has got to be the stupidest type of experiment you can do with the government.

I guess the big difference between DOGE cutting jobs and ruining not only people's lives, but the government itself... The difference between DOGE doing that and humanity pumping as much carbon into the atmosphere as we can, is that one of them has the ability to actually affect Elon personally in the future. What a piece of irredeemable garbage he is.

  • Katherine Culbert is her name.

  • If you want to see a lot of Star Trek actors playing small parts in a different franchise, there are a lot in Babylon 5, probably to nobody's surprise. Including Barclay.

  • Barclay would probably identify with a lot of that super toxic incel crap, which can be a stepping stone to extremism.

I know the character worked it out to some extent, but I wouldn't be surprised if it lingered.

  • The worst thing about the internet is that any moron can express their dumb, uninformed opinions.

The second worst thing is that I get to learn which celebrities are dumb, uninformed morons.
