  • Hmmm.

Under LMDE7, the HP Spectre does great with the games I've thrown at it so far (BeamNG.Drive, Hollow Knight, Factorio, Universe Simulator, Minecraft, etc), but despite exceeding the minimum specs, it really struggled with running anything in RPCS3. Stuttering, frame drops, graphics simply not loading, etc... I ended up writing off RPCS3 in general as "too heavy for a laptop" and tasked my desktop gaming PC as the dedicated PS3 emulator - works great.

Sounds like I might have to give Bazzite a shot again on the HP. I use that laptop for a lot of things, including diagnostics software for my cars, but I also have a perfectly-capable AMD Thinkpad T14 G1 hanging around that needs a purpose, too.

It was Space Engineers 2. Even made a post about the journey.

What was the actual issue you ran into though? I didn't see it in your post. I believe you, but my curiosity is piqued.

  • Right on, that's good to know. And you're running totally degoogled?

  • considering this is not done for computers

It is to some degree, with the TPM. Microsoft Surface laptops come to mind.

  • I tried the first method on a degoogled phone a few months ago. Doesn't work 😕

Been meaning to try the second method.

  • It's a bit buried in the documentation, but

Frigate summed up perfectly in a single statement.

    Wonderful application, awfully convoluted documentation.

  • I've yet to run into major issues with gaming. But I'm curious what issue you ran into that caused the switch to Bazzite? I actually tried Bazzite briefly on my latest laptop acquisition (HP Spectre x360) before going with LMDE 7; I didn't like the immutable aspect. I'm a tinkerer at heart and can't handle not being able to get under the hood, so to speak.

  • Yep. Debian. I like apt, and I like shit that just....works. I'm very much a form after function kind of person. Plus, Debian was the first Linux distro I became most familiar with at a young age. So what if a bunch of packages are on "old" versions. They work. The kernel works. KDE Plasma works. I can do everything I want to do without having to constantly be on the bleeding edge. If you prefer newer things, that's great. I prefer older, more proven things. That's also why I drive Toyota cars and old Honda motorcycles.

My Proxmox cluster runs...uh...Proxmox, which is based on Debian. NAS runs OMV which also runs on top of Debian. Laptops all run Linux Mint Debian Edition 7, and my 5800X3D/7900XTX gaming PC runs LMDE6 (will be upgrading to 7 soon). The only non-Debian machines in my house are my wife's iMac and Macbook Pro, and the Home Assistant mini PC.

  • Hydration 💯💯💯

  • I feel more productive after a gummy hits. Takes the noise floor down several notches.

Only small gummies though; more than 10-15mg (depending on strain) makes me hear colors and smell time.

  • That's exactly what I did. It was a pain because I have so many 2FA-enabled accounts, but it was absolutely worth it.

  • Authy is closed source and owned by Twilio, a publicly-traded company.

    Aegis is FOSS.

Do what you will with this info.

  • Professionally I’ve had situations where Ms authenticator was the only option because the only 2FA they allow is push notifications on the authenticator app.

If a company requires me to install specific apps that may or may not work on my device, I expect that company to provide me with a device that can be set up for their stuff.

I've run two separate phones for nearly 15 years now: my personal phone, and a work-issued phone. The work phone is turned off and left on my night stand as soon as I get home, and only turned on again when I'm getting ready to go back to work. I don't carry it 24/7 as some have been led to believe, for some reason. It's really nice to have that separation. And work pays for it.

  • What a whopper of a title.

Proton didn't help the FBI. The FBI unmasked the dude themselves with the info they had, a small amount of which was handed over by the Swiss feds that they obtained from Proton per Swiss law.

Y'all need to remember that any company operating in any particular country is beholden to that country's laws.

  • I am like this. It drive me nuts.

I've found that - at least with streaming services - just passively listening to music similar to That One Song™ will net you lots of good shit.

For example: I'm a metalhead, but also enjoy EDM/DnB and the like. By "tuning" my streaming algorithm to those genres, I've found bands like Pendulum, The Browning, We Butter The Bread With Butter, and so much more.

  • Some new phones still have SD card slots. Motorola G Play series, for one.

  • Yeah, you could've just stopped at "I don't have social media" instead of burning processing power at a data center somewhere for a pointless ramble.

  • Eh, own it and move on. Can't change the past.

  • Could be interesting to see something like what the EU has made as a threat of removing all copyright safeguards for the US in case the US presents more as a threat, so I guess the equivalent would be removing all patent safeguards for tinkering with phone manufacturer firmwares if the manufacturers won't provide a solution for the People themselves.

I can get behind that. Hoping this shithole country grows a spine soon.

  • The updated image editor, which is often used to edit screenshots, no longer has generative AI tools that let you edit with a prompt, create stickers, and delete parts of the image.

    Oh no! Anyway...
