  • Good point about manageability, the Rygonet feature is an interesting wrinkle & a microcosm of the larger TACOM mechanic.

I noticed the game is on Tabletop Simulator which seems like a low investment way to play (maybe online so no friends needed?) with all the rules already baked in!

  • I've read all 4 armies' unit descriptions 2 or 3 times now, the 3D printed elves in Land Warrior-era gear of the New Rygolic Host seem the coolest! Alas, I've never played a ttrpg besides some D&D campaigns abandoned a few hours in & everything in the text says how NRH is the hardest faction to play.

  • No problem glad it made sense!

  • The big fans you see at the front of jet engines are called compressor blades & they draw in the air. The compressor blade discs neck down progressively which, as you might've guessed from the name, compresses the density of the air to cram more oxygen in a given volume for the next stage, combustion. Fuel is burned here, the exhaust gases expand out the back through a series of turbine blades, which are spun by these gases to power the compressor at the front.

The heat from the nuclear reactor causes the compressed air to expand rather than burning fuel. The issue has been getting a reactor that is light enough to fly, yet still has sufficient radiation shielding to not (terribly) irradiate the engine's airflow. The latter isn't much a concern for a cruise missile flying over enemy territory, but if you want to recall the missile then you've got a reactor that's going 900kmh without landing gear that you need to dispose of.

  • Like Demifriend said the original 1979 series is the best start; the YouTube channel GundamInfo has the 3 movies which are a good condensation of the story. Next in the list is the direct sequel, Zeta Gundam, but the New Translation movies leave out some important stuff so the 50 episode series is best for Zeta.

I'd suggest watching Char's Counterattack after that to finish out the whole Char & Amuro saga, but that's moreso because the chronologic sequel ZZ Gundam didn't do it for me & it doesn't add much to the Char/Amuro arc. You can stick with ZZ and/or get into the One Year War side stories like The 08th MS Team (how I got into Gundam), 0080 War In The Pocket, or 0083 Stardust Memory.

That's a lotta content but from there you can go on to Victory Gundam (doomer Yoshiyuki Tomino trying to get fired) and an amazing payoff to the whole IP in Turn A Gundam (bloomer Tomino believing in multiverses or some shit)

  • The foregrip on these models with the finned barrels always looked so dinky to me. Like they'd snap off from recoil halfway through magdumping at the coppers

  • A final note on the InRange clique then I'll cease my parasocial ramblings: I'm grateful for a Hexbear making me aware that Deviant Ollam's wife has a Wikipedia page for being a CFR ghoul. But that's unsurprising for anarchists.

  • Honestly same for Karl, I remember him treating his K-98k with a little too much reverence during a mud test & thinking he was chuddier than Ian. Then Ian tried publishing a Swedish nazi's AZOV memoirs & posted 3 deleted justifications for why he needed to platform the fash before finally acceeding to peer pressure

  • The Comanche game was great too, as well as Jane's Advanced Tactical Fighters game too!

  • I'm also glad Karl got to keep Russel Phagan/"Sinistral Rifleman" in the divorce with Ian McCollum, since I think the KP-15 polymer AR lower receiver that Phagan produces is pretty neat. Plus Phagan is a very good shooter who posts incredibly fast match times despite looking like he doesn't do a lot of cardio
