  • Do not buy a Motorola if you care about updates. The site writes that software updates policy can change at anytime and they do not promise anything. Get a samsung, pixel, oneplus if you want updates.

The information contained herein is provided for information purposes only and is intended only to describe Motorola Mobility’s current plans regarding potential security updates on its Android-powered devices. The information communicated is not a commitment or an obligation of Motorola Mobility.

Motorola Mobility reserves the right to change the content and timing of any software release without further notification.

  • Its a Motorola so should be. Unless, they want to give away their advantage.

  • Yes, you can limit charging to 80%. Many phones have this feature. But, it still feels like micromanaging tech. Not letting it drop below 20%, being limited to 60% capacity.

  • This one can be customized with lots of options. I guess that adds the premium over shift.

  • It says $ £870 on my end. Maybe, you accidentally selected some custom options? That can increase the price.

Edit: My bad it does say Euro. Not dollar.

  • Just look at the Pixel phones, their SOC is about half as fast as top Snapdragon and Dimensity , and AFAIK nobody I have heard of is complaining about them being slow.

Its not about speed. But, battery and heat where people complain the most about. Even Google's return and complaints data showed people complained about their phones being bad with heat.

Not exactly a phone I'm getting excited about. I would have preferred better display and a higher end Camera system, and then a slightly slower SOC.

Oneplus had no option but to ship 8 Elite gen 5 since there was no other newer soc on the market and shipping an older soc would've meant being inferior to other phones like samsung and losing sales to others like Iqoo, xiaomi, realme, and others.

Things like camera sensor are not something people can easily see. But, you can easily check the processor and see if its better and faster.

  • Google being google. You can download osmand and remove most information for a profile and recreate a similar navigation experince.

  • Well, you have the Redmagic 11 pro if you want one. Bonus points it includes Liquid cooling, vapour chamber, 24000 RPM fan. 80W fast wireless and wired charging.

  • No, its not. Deep battery discharge and high heat can reduce your battery lifespan more compared to charging to 100%. You only save a few percentage of battery health at most after 500 charge cycles. Modern day smartphones do not simply charge to 100%. They use multiple heuristics and algorithms to only charge to 100% when necessary.

Anyway, if you really want maximum battery health. Charge from 20%-80%. But,, You would in effect be artificially limiting yourself to 60% and be frequently connected to the charger. Also, you would be micromanaging the tech and, not lettin tech do things for you.

Here's an awesome video by HTX studios who did a battery test for 2yrs: https://youtu.be/kLS5Cg_yNdM

  • Maybe, provide a tool so we can analyze this on device.

  • Signal uses E2E encryption. Unless, google can capture the screen displaying the message. It cannot read encrypted signal messages.

  • Depends. Can you share the device name in question? Also, if you use the default OS or a custom rom with/without play services.

  • I had to learn English from a young age because it was the primary language used from kindergarten to high school, and even in college.

I improved my comprehension by reading articles and online discussion forums, as well as by watching movies, series, broadcasts, and YouTube videos.

  • You can buy a standalone copy of Tasker for $4 if you get the patreon membership.

That does not require google play.

Does Tasker literally have charge control these days (I'll assume it has the sensor)? If so it'd make a good, more versatile solution for tinkerers (but probably at least 30% the cost or more give the module buying monetization craziness compared to a set and forget chargie).

I haven't checked. But, it should be possible. Combined with battery limit feature of most phones. You can post that question in askandroid@lemdro.id or the tasker subredit if you still use reddit.

  • 75% is not bad. You can still use the phone with some performance loss. How old is the phone? If its been 2-4yrs. A battery replacement is not a bad option.

  • You can use software to do what you use hardware and software.

I imagine a tasker or macrodroid profile to limit battery charging based on heat.

  • Not that its a bad study or anything, but where are the data points? Did they happen to publish their numbers somewhere?

Atleast cannot see anything in this video. Maybe, on weibo?

Also android artificially reduces capacity as it gets older. Most of the pixel phones for example will use number of cycles + time to determine the "max" capacity.

About android. Is there any report about android in general or just pixel?

Also, Good point about pixel. The forced capacity reduction cannot be stopped by the user.

Iphones reduced Soc performance in the past. Now, they do when detecting low voltage on your ageing battery and provide a bypass.

  • The charging tech does make a difference on charge speeds and heat. But, PPS should not make much of a difference. especially against advanced chinese charging tech solutions.

My phone gets hot when I use a slow charging. But, Phones using SuperVooc charging tech do not have heating issues when charged with them. Because they have most of the charging logic in the charger and not the phone.

So, your phone can be pumped with 60-120w and you won't notice much heat at all.
