News@lemmy.world•To tilt Hungarian election, Russians proposed staging assassination attemptEnglish
4·17 hours agoI wonder where else this might of been attempted, like maybe somewhere where they had a crane with a flag ready to lower to set up a shot, with severe security flaws, and for some reason instead of hiding the VIP jumped up and put up their fist?
Yeah I wonder where else…

Not judging, just curious.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What normally pleasant thing has poverty ruined for you?English
3·8 days agoyeah no sounds like a decent deal and you’re a kickass house mate to have, I also WFH so I have often wondered about how a roomate/housemate relationship would work from a business / financial perspective, appreciate the data point.
I feel your pain about the career aspect, also 15 years in my field and I have a spouse… So I get it - doubt I would of partnered up if I had been able to afford living expenses on my own. (I love my spouse and I am overall happy, I just think I may have made different choices in a different set of circumstances).

World News@quokk.au•Trump demands death penalty charges over media’s coverage of Iran WarEnglish
4·8 days agoI think if you look at the recent history (post WWII) of people charged with treason formally by the United States you will see that execution and a charge of treason, are pretty closely linked.
I never intended to posit my comment as encompassing all human wants and desires, but I do believe I have touched on the “basic bill of rights” that most people would agree on.
Tax the excessively wealthy.
I’m not an economist, so I won’t sit here and give a number of what level of wealth should be taxed, but I think it fits under “I know it when I see it”
If you’re buying multiple vacation properties, if you own a yacht or a private jet, you’re probably it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Blocking the Internet Archive Won’t Stop AI, But It Will Erase the Web’s Historical RecordEnglish
3·8 days agobut these archives and sources of information are a shared resource for everyone, we all have a responsibility to pitch in and help support them.
Placing the blame squarely at our [US] feet is misguided and seeds your own responsibility to civilization to “flaccid anus of selfish corporate group think.”
Like how can you disagree with that? I’m not excusing any actions, or defending the choices, again, I donate to Wikipedia every time they ask - we all are responsible to protect and defend this knowledge, you can’t call on the people of the United States alone to do it.

News@lemmy.world•‘I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran’: High-ranking US intelligence official resigns | CNN PoliticsEnglish
121·8 days agoI would recommend spending some time comprehending what you read before responding.
I think people want to not be hungry, I think they want to have time for leisure, I think they want to not worry about whether they will pay the rent or put groceries in their fridge (forget about a vacation).
I think people want a guarantee that after working for 40 years they can retire and spend some of their life freely.
I think people want to know that they won’t go bankrupt because they get cancer.
I think you’re making it way more complicated than it is.
If the top 1% wasn’t collecting an equal share of wealth to the bottom 40% people these things could be possible.
