  • As a whitewater river guide, there are two groups that will never listen to you and make your day hell: Asians and Indians. Every time.

    • use pfsense for a firewall. Using nftables, firewalld, etc should only really come into play if on an untrusted network. Firewalls on servers can cause more problems than they solve and are easy to misconfigure.
    • run lynis on your Linux servers to help get them compliant with CIS benchmarks
    • be careful with your reverse proxies
    • keep things patched
    • run only necessary services
    • configure needed services conservatively
    • no root logins

  • IT isn't developers. What is really needed is a developer on your team, or somebody who at least knows how to lead the effort. I've been that guy.

  • Closed source goals are profit. Open source goals are to solve a problem.

  • Programming languages that use white space to delimit structure are annoying at best. I get annoyed at yaml too, but I'm ok once I have a few templates set up.

  • People are judged more on their behavior than their gender identity or race.

  • Other than the recent nonsense, this is why I cancelled Netflix and went back to pirating. Content leaves unexpectedly? Not on my Nas.

  • Yup. In dreams I cannot achieve anything no matter the effort. And that failure loops.

    The fact that I can post this means I'm not dreaming.
