  • NASA could start by building a modern rocket, not a hacky assortment of spare parts left over from the Shuttle program and designed in the 1970s. But it's not about going to the moon, it's about giving the military industrial complex more money.

Nobody even knows how to build the RS-25 engines anymore. There's a handful not at the bottom of the ocean and they're somehow supposed to take whitey to the moon.

So the US will lose the "race" it unilaterally declared. Just like the last time.

  • But Munich also showed that Trump hasn't at all destroyed the transatlantic alliance.

  • I have also really struggled with this phrase or concept in my life. Especially as a kid, I would get in trouble for one thing or another and would try to explain my thoughts or actions to try to create some understanding only to be cut off for making excuses. I probably learned some negative patterns from that.

  • Because PM Starmer is facing a public backlash to Andrew and other UK elites being mixed up in the recent document dumps. It's not for justice, it's to save face.

  • Managers don't know shit.

  • The liberals go back to brunch.

  • An anecdote and an ironic alternative use of the term waste-maker: there used to be glass recycling bins next to my most-frequented supermarket. A few years ago they have been replaced with Tesla charging stations. The next glass bins are two kilometers away and not at all convienient, while Musk garbage takes up an ideal location.

  • Could be, but since (west) Germans have to reflexively denounce the DDR every time it comes up I don't see anyone else making that connection, even after a couple searches.

Another note on Rammstein: the frontman has been relatively recently accused of SA.

  • Nah there are actually people like this.

  • This guy also thinks imperialism is when countries fight, and it's not possible for one nation to take advantage of another.

  • Sounds a lot like democratic centralism.

  • This book is awful but it's not because it's communist.

I liked it as a kid too but now that I am an adult and have learned a bit about social justice I realize it's not a good book for kids to be learning from.

  • IIRC Kallas herself said the current political situation in Europe is driving her to drink.

  • She also said the contents [of the backpack] would have been discovered inevitably through a federal search warrant.

    Coulda woulda shoulda.

If that sets a precedent (or already is one), goodbye due process and any charade of protection from searches by law enforcement.

In school I learned that just because a warrant would very likely be granted doesn't mean the police can skip that step.

But as we know the rule of law means the rule of the legal system over the lower classes.

  • There was a published exchange between former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and former US President Bill Clinton from the 1990s, in which Chrétien made a strong arguments for Canada's nominal sovereignty in terms of how it benefits the US position. For example, Canada can take the side of the US in international relations; a state or even multiple states cannot do that. The subordination of Canadian intelligence (CISA) to the US via Five and more Eyes is another example: the US can use CISA to provide legal cover for surveilling US citizens.

  • Even if this were true from a biological point of view, and even if we claim humans have been beholden to Darwinian natural selection after the dawn of civilization, we have to define what "strong" means in this context. Put simply, it means an organism survived long enough to reach sexual maturity. For humans, let's be generous and say that's 20 years old. Everything that happens after that is irrelevant. Humans have a 50% lifetime chance of developing cancer. Pretty shitty odds if you ask me, maybe evolution should have sorted that out. But it can't, because most cancers develop well after our reproductive years.
