Kamala would have been at best delaying the inevitable. The DNC is not capable of meaningfully changing fast enough to react to the growing threat of fascism.

they're speedrunning the 20th century
the tariffs are multi faceted
a- it's to create a hostile and confrontational diplomatic environment
b- to dramatically worsen the economic situation domestically. weaker economy, weaker establishment institutions. angrier people, extreme decisions become more palatable.
c- slowly prepare the US for a disconnect from the global economy. this way when the curtain comes down and there's another great war, it hurts less.
we're witnessing a slow moving coup. they're getting people nice and angry for the near future. it'll be important for the upcoming political violence
i come from a tariff heavy country. you want a sneak peak? inflation. shit is gonna get more expensive. that's it
there has to be a real fear of losing something, otherwise there's no pressure to change. they will never change voluntarily. and after they win/lose an election there is zero pressure to do anything
the best time to criticize is in the immediate lead up to an election
exactly. it escalates over time as things become normalized.
if there are 10 stages we're like at stage 3
in 2016 we were at stage 1. back then, Trump wouldn't dare have said "immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country" - that wouldn't have had a good reception back then. too on the nose. but you start with more subtle things and slowly you shift the overton window of what is and isn't socially acceptable
it's a treadmill and we're jogging
Yes, for most of my life I thought we would never get rid of the illegals for precisely this reason. They are so integrated into our economy that eliminating them would cause a huge fallout. Almost 15 million people here. And they're dramatically over-represented in specific industries.
So for example, you mentioned food. Agriculture, especially in the SW, runs on illegal labor. Construction all over the country runs on illegal labor. The people washing dishes at restaurants, the people cleaning up offices at night, the people working at landscaping companies, etc.
All of those industries are about to experience a severe supply shock of labor. This is going to mean increased prices for food, for landscaping, for construction, etc. Not only that, the services are going to be increasingly harder to staff. It's really hard to find an American willing to relocate to rural areas to dig holes. It's hard to find ones that are willing to pick fruit, etc.
Not to mention the effect that 15 million less consumers eating at local restaurants, buying products from Amazon, paying rent, will have.
And the worst part of it, the part that scares me, is that I'm certain Trump and his allies know this. They are entirely aware of the potential consequences of what they are doing. It does not take an economic savant to understand this and certainly Trump has some very smart advisors around him. So they are aware and they are doing it anyway.
What does that imply? That means they are willing to nuke our economy for this (throw in tariffs too while we're at it). And when I say nuke I mean nuke- there's no going back after this. We're causing permanent long-term structural damage. Why would he be willing to do this?
I fear because there's a lot worse on the horizon. Global war will overshadow the economic fallout from these decisions and will be pointed to as the cause of the near-future economic woes. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions here, but this is not a good omen. It's sort of like suicidal people giving away all their money before they off themselves. It's a red flag.
I think we're fucked with a capital F
but as long as he’s hurting non-whites they will sit around giving each other rage handies and praising him
What I find fascinating is the right-wing illegal immigration latinos who support Trump. Up until now they've been saying "He's not going to deport us, he's deporting the criminals". I just read a news article about half of the people they've arrested so far did not have any criminal records.
White House press secretary goes live the other day and says "We're going to deport all of them. They're all criminals as far as I'm concerned"
I think people have this instinctual burning desire to feel part of an "in-group" and to hate against an "out-group". It's such a strong burning desire that people will jump through so many mental hoops even when they are in the "out-group".
Note that being illegal is not a crime. It's like when you get a parking ticket. It's against the law but it isn't a criminal violation. But of course the administration doesn't care and neither does the army of rabid Americans cheering on the destruction of the country.
Just saying, this sounds like a VERY expensive distraction from the fact that they’re working hard on robbing the US coffers blind…
Doesn't matter if the country goes broke. Something like 90% of immigration detention centers are privately owned. This whole thing is going to funnel hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars of taxpayer money right into the pockets of wealthy shareholders.
Immigration detention centers have been around for a while now. Virtually all of them ran by private corporations. People rail against private prisons but they make up a tiny tiny minority of prisoners. Over 90% of immigration detention centers are privately owned.
So we're going to throw millions of people into camps so that a few corporations can extract a ton of public taxpayer money. They're also gonna stay there for years because it's logistically impossible to move over 10 million people quickly.
I didn't think fascism would happen again my lifetime. But I guess here we are
62% of the country supports deporting all illegals. Something that would be unbelievable a decade or two ago is now true for most Americans.
A strong majority of the country supports putting millions of people in camps and keeping them there for years. Of course GOP is more fervently against it- the same GOP that idolizes Reagan who gave blanket citizenship to millions of illegals.
I haven't used an antivirus software in over 10 years and I haven't gotten a virus or had any other issues. As for VPN,
a) I wouldn't trust Malwarbytes because they have an abysmal customer service history
b) I wouldn't trust NordVPN because I don't trust companies that advertise on youtube

'Doomsday Clock' moves closer to midnight amid threats of climate change, nuclear war, pandemics, AI
This was started nearly a century ago by scientists after the creation of the atomic bomb a couple years after the end of WW2.
The point is mostly to say "hey, we have the technology to blow up the world and things do not not seem to be going well". They actually give out an annual report every year explaining their reasoning.
In setting the Clock one second closer to midnight, we send a stark signal: Because the world is already perilously close to the precipice, a move of even a single second should be taken as an indication of extreme danger and an unmistakable warning that every second of delay in reversing course increases the probability of global disaster.
Essentially- we are closer than ever to a global war between nuclear powers.
In regard to nuclear risk, the war in Ukraine, now in its third year, looms over the world; the conflict could become nuclear at any moment because of a rash decision or through accident or miscalculation. Conflict in the Middle East threatens to spiral out of control into a wider war without warning. The countries that possess nuclear weapons are increasing the size and role of their arsenals, investing hundreds of billions of dollars in weapons that can destroy civilization. The nuclear arms control process is collapsing, and high-level contacts among nuclear powers are totally inadequate given the danger at hand.
Now someone may say "Closer than ever?? What about the Cuban Missile Crisis?"
The thing is, we have been developing newer and "less dangerous" nuclear weapons. Tactical bombs that won't leave the traditional nuclear fallout. This creates a sort of itchy trigger finger syndrome. After the Cold War, we created nuclear arms control treaties between the US and Russia. These are collapsing. Both the US and Russia are complicit in this.
If anybody wants to read more https://thebulletin.org/doomsday-clock/2025-statement/
But to tldr:
The world is in a chaotic period of time. Fascism seems to be taking hold again, the economy is on the edge of collapse, and war remains an ever-present threat. Any war between great powers (US, China, Russia) would certainly mean nuclear disaster.
The point is that we are vulnerable right now. Any push could shove us tumbling down the hill. Diplomatic crisis, another pandemic, economic crash, a regional war, etc. Any of those could be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I have a lot of respect for the Bulletin Board of Atomic Scientists. We need these types of organizations to remind people of the danger we are currently in. We become desensitized because of the constant barrage of "historic news" but they're going to look back on this period similarly to the decade before WW2, I believe.

Really? Closer than Cuban missile crisis?
The assumption is that any major war => nuclear war => major unmitigated disaster.
And we are dangerously close to a global war. Personally I have a hunch that's the reason Trump is more or less going nuclear at home with all of his changes. They're gonna wreck the economy but it's all gonna be overshadowed quite soon so it won't matter.
If Jesus showed up he would be considered a radical woke liberal.
"Love your neighbor" somehow became report your neighbor to ICE
To be fair to Trump, ideology is always co-opted and interpreted however convenient. The Nazis were "socialist" after all. NK is a people's republic. etc
I used to regularly visit a kava bar that happened to become a hang out spot for cops and military people. Honestly they didn't seem that bad. One guy would come in every day for a kratom we'd take shells together. He played Slay the Spire on his switch, would ask for tips cause he kinda sucked.
Really they take easily impressionable young men and through the system mold them into something toxic. We become the roles we play. Shakespeare or something
From what I gather, you're making the insinuation that the people who refused to vote for Kamala due to her (and Biden's) support of Israel are responsible for Trump and his heavy-handed approach.
I'd retort by stating that Israel has killed near 100k Palestinians and reduced most of the territory to rubble all while Biden's administration had been sending bombs, guns, tanks, missiles, and money.
The main difference between Trump and Biden on this issue is how loud and open they are about it.
Is there a difference between discretely supporting apartheid or openly supporting apartheid? Probably, in an intellectual sense. But what difference does it make to the tens of thousands of Gazan widows?
Do you mean the promoted content done by the youtubers themselves? Because there are no YouTube ads when you use Premum.
And Premium recently came out with a feature that makes it really easy to skip the promotional content.
Yeah, it's interesting to see history repeat itself in my lifetime. Everyone seems to be OK with people going after the other - but what happens when they come after you?
Latinos I know, even some illegals, support Trump. Why? Because in their mind, when Trump says "they're bringing over the murderers, the rapists" he's obviously not referring to them. it's the other immigrants.
when he says "immigrants are poisoning the blood of our country" it's the other immigrants
when he says "they're eating the dogs, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating the pets of the people that live there" he obviously means those barbaric other immigrants
this type of "I'm with him and he is not talking about me" seeps into other areas too
I saw a long facebook post on reddit the other day. it was a veteran explaining that his wife had recently got a job at a VA hospital. that she was set to start in 2 weeks and they just moved states for her to start the job. that he was a disabled vet that has supported Trump since day 1.
but Trump, true to his word, froze all hiring for all "non-essential" government departments. that, coincidentally, includes his wife's new position. she was told her job was no longer available.
in his post, he said "Trump, I know this is an oversight. I know when you said you were going to cut all government hiring, you didn't mean this one, you meant the others"
it's honestly fascinating. People want desperately to be inside of the "in group" that they'll play mental gymnastics and enthusiastically support policies directly harmful to themselves
like you said, eventually you will get burned. it doesn't matter who you are. fascism will hurt us all, even the blond blue eyes wunderkind
However there still is some information, where Twitter is a good source.
I agree. There are some great OSINT posters that share all sorts of information you won't find anywhere else. For example when Israel struck back at Iran after the initial wave of missiles and drones- it was a guy on twitter who geolocated and found the satellite images of what they hit.
And that information directly contradicted the Israeli official narrative. You won't find it on NY Times. You won't find it on Washington Post. Hell, you'd have a hard time finding it here or on reddit. That's just one example, there's a wealth of live data about Russia v Ukraine as well. One thing I've really learned the last 3 years since 2022 is that the mainstream media will completely lie to you. It isn't just bias, it's outright lying. So people online who are dedicated to the truth and provide receipts, I find, is a breath of fresh air. It allows humans without privileged information to go online and actually see with their own eyes what is happening on the ground. It's something that frankly hasn't been the case for any time in human history. Although I think it's going to be a short window of time that will be true.
I think Twitter has progressively been becoming more censored. For now, most people are more or less ignored if you aren't talking about the hot topics- but I think very soon anything against official US narrative will be banned. Same thing with Facebook, Tiktok, etc.
We're seeing the social media sites align themselves with the US government in preparation for the next global war. The first thing to go in war is the truth. Soon there will be a giant firewall and we won't be able to see content from overseas. Initially people will be able to use VPNs and other methods and then eventually that will be met with criminal charges.
This is extreme and could warrant an invasion from the US. Wars have been fought for less. Look at what happened to Guatemala when they wanted to take back some of the half off their farmland owned by Chiquita.
Canada is a mid-sized power but not really in a position to flaunt US power like that
